New pitch notes for FIFA 22 show how the Ultimate Team launch will go. There’s new info on Early Access, special maps, packs and the web app.
What’s going on right now? In the so-called “Pitch Notes” EA Sports regularly publishes updates about new content in FIFA. This was also the case on September 16. Here it is explicitly shown how the first days in FUT will run – and a few more infos about content were discussed as well.
We show you here the most important news about Ultimate Team in FIFA 22 in the overview.
Early Access and start of the Web App
When does the Early Access run? There are several ways to play FIFA 22 before the official release on 01 October.
- There is a 10-hour trial for EA Play members that can be used starting September 22.
- EA Play Pro members will be allowed to access the game without restrictions starting September 22.
- For pre-orderers of the Ultimate Edition, it starts on September 27.
Early Access Bonuses: If you get in early, you can prepare for some special content during early access.
- An untradeable 80-84 Player Pick and a Team of the Week loan player (10 games) can be earned via special Early Access goals
- TOTW 1 with improved maps goes online in time. TOTW is also being improved – you can read more about that below.
- During Early Access, there will be special live FUT friendlies to play for pack rewards.
- There will also be an Ones-to-Watch SBC during Early Access.
Official launch of the FIFA 22 Web App
When will the Web App launch? The Web App for FIFA 22 will start like the Early Access on September 22. The mobile version, the Companion App, will be online on September 23. You can find out everything about the Web App here.
TOTW, special cards and packs in FUT 22
What’s new in TOTW? Also in FIFA 22 there will be the team of the week again. Here are always the players in it, who have brought the best performances in the real soccer on the match day. For these players there will be a special card.
In the past, however, there was criticism that these cards could no longer keep up with the crazier events in FIFA. FIFA 22 aims to improve that, according to Pitch Notes, with some tweaks to the maps based on real-world performances. The first of these are special “Featured TOTW Players”.
This is how a boost for players like Bellingham could look like
As exemplified here by a hypothetical card for Jude Bellingham, these “featured” players get a heftier boost than normal TOTW cards.
At the start of the – Season , however, there are restrictions on this: For example, the player must be rated 80 or below and not have an active live card (e.g. Ones To Watch).
This is to make “weak” TOTW cards of the past more exciting in the future. At the same time, the pitch notes hint that more measures will follow.
Icons, Heroes and Ones to Watch
The pitch notes also discuss three types of special cards and when they will be available.
Heroes: The new FUT Heroes should be available in FIFA 22 from the launch on October 01. It is also possible that additional versions will be added during events. A list of the FUT Heroes can be found here.
Icons: Icons will once again feature Base, Mid, Prime and Moments cards. Base and Mid will be available from launch, Prime and Moments will come later. Icon Swaps and Icon SBCs will also return.
Ones to Watch: With the launch of FIFA 22 also the OTW event starts (so from 01 October). Here are again cards for players who changed the club this summer and will be improved during the – Season .
- Upgrades are available for TOTW or Man-of-the-Match cards
- Also, there is an upgrade of one point if the player’s real team wins 5 games from the first ten games starting from 01 October
There shall be 28 OTW cards in total. Team 1 will come on 01 October and will be available until 08 October. It will be supplemented by three more OTW cards on 03 October.
Team 2 then appears on 08 October and remains available until 13 Oct. This team will also be supplemented with 3 cards – on 10 October.
Those who ordered the Ultimate Edition will then get an OTW player from the particular team in whose time period you open the OTW pack. After October 13, both teams are then possible.
The Preview Packs return in FIFA 22
What’s going on with the packs? In FIFA 21, Ultimate Team had for the first time gotten packs whose contents you could see before you opened them. Players really liked this change, as it reduced the gambling factor a bit – because now you knew what you were getting for your coins.
If you were happy with the contents, you could buy the pack. If you preferred not to, you could just put it back. After that, a 24-hour timer goes off until the next preview pack is available – unless you buy the pack. In FIFA 22, these packs will be available again. Non-preview packs are also back in the store, though. There will be both variants.
