Compared to the 4-2-2-2, this formation offers two outer midfielders who are positioned a bit more defensively, but will noticeably improve your wing play with the help of the individual player settings .
Two central midfielders provide extra security in front of the back line and supply the wingers with passes. The only thing missing from the formation is a ZOM behind the tips – attacks through the middle of the field are sometimes a little more difficult than with other formations.
The best tactics for the 4-4-2
For two to three years, the 4-4-2 has been one of the most popular formations in the FIFA series and also marks an absolute meta formation in FIFA 21 . Here you are compact and at the same time you can force the wing play, which is stronger in the current part of the series than in previous years. Try the following individual tactics:
- Defensive Style: Balanced

The player instructions in 4-4-2
In contrast, the individual player instructions are much more important in the 4-4-2 formation . Because only if you make the right settings here will your players move freely on the pitch.
The main focus of this lineup is also on the two central midfielders : You need a defensive GM with good defense and passing stats (the classic “six”) and a more attacking midfielder with defensive stats of 75 or more and good stats on offense (shooting and passing ), who joins in the attacking game.
