Actually, #Reddit user wararmy just wanted to help, but instead he apparently became the victim of malicious trolls. Because his answer to a new WoW fan’s question about how to play a tank in the #MMO was flagged and subsequently removed by a Blizzard employee. Subsequently, wararmy cashed in a three-month ban.
The ban shows how toxic the WoW community can be
The player documented his detailed post and the ban in a video and screenshots on reddit. The obviously very helpful forum post explains in detail about tanking in WoW (buy now ) with all its facets, including people’s choice and addon tips. You can see at first glance how much effort wararmy has put into providing the questioner with a helpful answer.
The same person also thanked wararmy posthaste, writing, “I certainly have a lot to learn, but if I can just find a few people in the game who are as helpful as you, I’m sure I’ll be fine.” This all sounds very positive and anything but ban-worthy. Nevertheless, a short time later wararmy received a message that a Blizzard employee had deleted his post and banned his account for three months.
What had happened? The community on reddit suspects that other forum users reported his post out of ill will. For example, reddit user IraqiWalker writes:
“Your mistake was trying to help someone on the forum. The saying ‘No good deed goes unpunished’ is especially true here. It may be that someone reported you because they disagreed with your opinion, or because your post was long, or simply because you dared to offer some assistance to a new player on the forums and not just let them suffer in the game.”
Was an automated system the cause of the ban?
The ban then apparently occurred without the employee responsible for it even reading through the post. Accordingly, warmarmy also writes that while he is aware that the forum is rough, he is very surprised that a Blizzard employee would issue a ban without even properly reviewing his post.
Another reddit user suspects that the ban could also be an automated action. Rambo_One2 writes:
“The only thing I could find that might mark a system would be the mention of the GTFO addon, but you clearly stated that it was an addon […]. I believe that [der Bann] was either partially or completely automatic because someone incorrectly reported your post. […] and no one bothered to check if the ban was even permissible.”
At least the banned player is getting a lot of encouragement from the reddit community, which asks him not to be distracted by this incident and to continue helping other players. The reddit user wararmy has filed an appeal against the ban. Let’s hope that the community managers realize their mistake and lift the ban as soon as possible.
