The NVA, or Vietnam People’s Army, is an enemy faction in the campaign and multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops .
Call of Duty Black Ops
In Black Ops, there are several missions in which the player fights against the NVA. SOG, The defector,
Crash Site and Payday. Nevertheless, they are not the main opponents in the game. They mostly wear brown uniforms with green helmets or caps resembling WWII officer’s hats, in multiplayer they also wear bandanas. Each hat or similar piece of gear bears the star on it, showing their connection to Communism. Unlike the Viet Cong thugs, the NVA has a standard uniform because it is considered a real army. Also, their attacking and flanking techniques are far superior to those of the Viet Cong. Without a doubt, they are really strong opponents because they usually attack in large numbers.
weapons
For the most part, the equipment of the NVA is the same as that of the Soviet Armed Forces , although they do not have as much variety in attachments. The Viet Cong are also more imaginative.

In Black Ops multiplayer, the NVA is a playable faction played on Jungle, Hanoi, and Cracked maps.
Info
- Although most of the time the NVA uses the AK-47 as their primary weapon, they only use the FN FAL as their rifle in Der Defector.
- Just like the Viet Cong, the NVA seems to speak a mixture of real and broken Vietnamese. Sometimes they just say meaningless nonsense, for example, the NVA’s loudspeaker in Der Überlaufer.
- In the campaign, they wear light brown uniforms, but in multiplayer they wear Viet Cong outfits. This is just like in Call of Duty: World at War, where the Wehrmacht wore actual Waffen SS uniforms in multiplayer.
- Sometimes the NVA doesn’t say “granite” in Vietnamese, which means lựu đạn, but rather grenade in German.
- The NVA and the Viet Cong are the first factions to not properly speak their own language.
- The NVA appears in every mission that takes place in Vietnam except Victor Charlie. In Crash Site, they are seen on top of a hill where they can also be shot down, and their base is hind attacked in Payday.
- A MiG-17 aircraft with the NVA logo can be seen in the Operation 40 mission in the first hangar after running down the hill.
- The Hardliner and Lightweight multiplayer models are the only ones to appear in the campaign, Ghost and Looter were borrowed from the Viet Cong, and Bulletproof Vest was created exclusively for multiplayer.
- When a member of the NVA is in the last stand and draws his Makarov, sometimes after death you cannot pick up the weapon, it just disappears.
- If you set fire to an NVA soldier in the campaign, he’ll scream just like the Japanese soldiers did in World at War.
- In the SOG mission, when you shoot down the NVA on the hill, they fall down in the same style as the soldiers from Call of Duty and 2, and their graphics are extremely poorly designed.
- The hardliner model from the multiplayer looks like the VC Bookie, the two share a pair of eyes and a mustache.
- Takeo’s survival hand model is modeled after a ghost user’s model from multiplayer.
- The only time the NVA appears in Crash Site is on a boat, which can be identified by the flag of Vietnam. This is best seen in the final fight when you carve your way up the river in this mission.
- On the GKNOVA6 website, you can see some dead zombies that look a lot like the Vietnamese soldiers. One of them also looks like a civilian from The Defector mission. It’s in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- The NVA and the Viet Cong are clearly the successors of the Imperial Japanese Army because they have a lot in common. Hailing from Asia, they prefer to go on the enemy with a suicidal attack, they fight against Americans in a tropical environment, fight in large numbers, and love covert and unexpected attacks.
- The NVA and the SOG are the only factions that you don’t play in any DLC packs.
- The NVA is the only faction on the DS version of Black Ops that you can completely eliminate.
- In The defector, the NVA loudspeaker not only says a lot of meaningless nonsense but also the false name of Vietnam. He says “People’s Republic of Vietnam” when it’s “Democratic Republic of Vietnam”.
