Everything about the move of Lootboxes

On October 4, 2022, will disappear forever and be completely replaced by its successor, – that is, even more drastically than Blizzard has already done with Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3: Reforged.

But what actually happens to your earned rewards from Overwatch 1? Like the Removal of , Credits, Skins and Co. The developers have clarified how this will work in a Q&A session on Reddit.

This is what happens to your Lootboxes, Credits & Co.

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, several developers from the Overwatch team answered questions from the community. Especially the upcoming conversion of all current Overwatch accounts to the successor system met with great interest.

What will happen to the lootboxes and skins?

Gamers and players who still have a bunch of unopened loot boxes need not fear: The developers of Overwatch 2 have confirmed that all content from these boxes will be automatically opened and transferred.

This is to be done because there simply won’t be any more loot boxes in Overwatch 2, Commercial Lead Jon Spector revealed:

We will not be introducing loot boxes in Overwatch 2. Before launch, all unopened loot boxes will be opened automatically and your account will receive all the content directly.

Should you still have unopened loot boxes from – Season al events, you will also receive the corresponding rewards. This is because the contained loot is already determined when you receive the box.

Ultimately, this means that all skins from Overwatch will also be carried over to the second part. For the new heroes like the Junker Queen, however, you’ll have to earn all the skins first:

Overwatch 2 goes Mad Max: The new heroine Junker Queen shows all her skills in the trailer

Overwatch 2 goes Mad Max: The new heroine Junker Queen shows all her skills in the trailer

What happens to the credits and other currencies?

All currencies of the first part will be completely transferred to the successor. This includes:

  • Credits
  • OWL Brands
  • Competetive Points

However, the developers also clarified that the already existing credits in the sequel can only be used for very specific purposes and do not necessarily have the same value as the brand new main currency that will be introduced with Overwatch 2.

So we can’t tell you whether you should pile up your credits and tokens now rather than after the transfer.

What you need to do to keep your progress from part 1

To ensure that your hard-won skins and credits aren’t lost, PC players with a Battle.net account have to do plenty. Your progress will be automatically carried over to Overwatch 2.

Console players should watch out, though: To play Overwatch 2, you will need a Battle.net account linked to the game. Without it, you won’t be able to jump into matches. If you don’t know which accounts are linked to your Battle.net account, you can find out on the Battle.net page.

Cross Progression: How to merge different accounts

If you’ve been playing the hero shooter on multiple platforms, then you can link them to a Battle.net account. Since August 16, all players with a linked console account will be asked to confirm the accounts they want to merge when logging in. This will allow you to play Part 2 on either PC or console without losing your progress.

If this does not happen automatically for youyou will see an option on your console to request a code via QR. As soon as you enter the code on your console, you will be asked to confirm your account the next time you log in, and the accounts will then be merged. If you have any unanswered questions, you may find answers in the Overwatch FAQ.

One last note: It should be noted that you only have one opportunity to link the correct account. You can also only link one account of a platform at a time. For example, you cannot link two different PC accounts. You also can’t link more than two accounts.
