Everything about gameplay, release and content

: Arclight Rumble is a new mobile game from that should appeal to strategy fans in particular. From the first introduction, the game sounds like a mixture of Tower Defense, Hero Collector and Clash Royale. Above all, the well-known Warcraft characters are supposed to play a role. It is the first Warcraft strategy game since the release of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne in 2003.

What exactly is Arclight Rumble? The game is about assembling an army, partly made up of well-known Warcraft characters. With this army you’ll confront different challenges:

  • There are over 70 single player missions
  • There will be weekly and monthly challenges, such as consisting of multi-part dungeons or larger raids
  • The missions can be partially played in co-op with friends
  • There will be competitive challenges
  • You can organize yourselves into guilds

In early videos, for example, you can see how players can enter a mission and then place their army piece by piece to take on enemies and even larger raid bosses. In doing so, you as the player make the decision as to which characters belong to your army, how often you take the characters with you, and where you place them on the battlefield.

Synergies are supposed to play a role in this.

In addition to normal army creatures, there will also be familiar heroes that you can collect and villains that you can fight. Grommash Hellscream, Rend Blackhand, and Jaina Splendor Sea have already been mentioned.

There should be a total of 5 factions: Alliance, Horde, Blackrock, Undead and Wild.

The fighting is roughly reminiscent of the attacks in Clash of Clans on another village. However, you also have a cannon of your own, which is attacked by enemies and must be defended. Rounds can also end when time runs out.

Overall, everything should play out “chaotically” and “entertainingly”, as the developers emphasize. First reactions to the game can be found here:

Blizzard promises a true Warcraft experience

What does Blizzard have to say about Arclight Rumble? The mobile game is supposed to be easy to learn, but hard to master. Blizzard emphasizes several times that the game should offer a “real Warcraft experience” and was implemented by developers who have been loyal to the franchise for a long time.

The game’s two game directors are Adam Kugler and Tom Chilton:

  • Adam Kugler has been working for Blizzard since 2012 and was, among other things, Lead Class Designer for World of Warcraft until the expansion Battle for Azeroth.
  • Tom Chilton was Game Director of World of Warcraft and has been with Blizzard since 2004. He worked on WoW until Legion, and then took over as director of Warcraft: Arclight Rumble.

The technical director, Monte Krol, has even been with Blizzard since around 2000 and had an impact on the development of Warcraft 3 and 2: Wings of Liberty. Experience is definitely present in the team.

Accordingly, there are supposed to be many allusions to events in Warcraft and WoW, and also to the locations there. However, the game works even without prior knowledge of the Warcraft world.

What about monetization? Basically, Arclight Rumble will be a Free2Play game. Nevertheless, there is a big discussion around the topic of monetization.

Especially games like Clash Royale have a negative reputation, because with money you can expand your base and troops faster and have real advantages.

Exactly what the monetization of Warcraft: Arclight Rumble will look like is not yet known. According to GameStar, Blizzard is said to have assured that only progress and not characters will be monetized. It should be possible to fill certain progress bars, but characters should not be in lootboxes.

In addition, there is supposed to be a cap on daily progress that can be achieved through play.

What do you think of the new Warcraft game? Will you have fun with it or would you have preferred a completely different genre? Feel free to post it in the comments.
