CoD Warzone raises hopes for return of old map

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently running the event “The Last Stand” – heroes against villains, good against evil. Players collect points for one side to prevent a disaster on the map Caldera. However, the developers apparently also have something against the “catastrophe” and are helping the heroes.

Call of Duty: Warzone played for a long time on a Soviet-inspired map – Verdansk. Large apartment blocks dominated the cityscape, the colors were not very saturated, an exaggerated radio system symbolized the power fantasies of the Soviets during the Cold War.

For a long time players demanded a new map and there came the island paradise Caldera. An absolute contrast program.

But the map is still controversial today, even massive changes on Caldera could not change that so far. So many players want the old map Verdansk back and saw in the current – Season 5 a possibility, a chance to somehow justify this via the story.

Because the announcement for the event was: If the bad guys win, it could lead to a catastrophe on Caldera. Like the complete annihilation of the island. The villains already threw something into the volcano in the story trailer of – Season 5, which has been bubbling nastily ever since:

Whether it was due to the narrative prospect of the old map or CoD players just love being evil: The meanies around Raul Menendez were able to score a lot more points, and were almost uncatchable in the lead just a few days after the event started.

But the evil side of the CoD community made the calculation without the developers of Raven Software. They decided a few days ago that the tokens of the good side will bring twice as many points for 4 days.

And lo and behold: Currently, the two sides are again almost evenly matched. The good side is even 4 billion points ahead.

While writing this article, I’ve been tracking the numbers a bit and the evil side does indeed seem to be catching up again. Nevertheless, players on Reddit are now discussing whether the event outcome is completely predetermined and the developers are cheating more than they want to admit after all.

What do players say? A large thread has formed on Reddit about this. With a good 500 upvotes in 12 hours, it is currently one of the strongest topics in the Warzone subreddit. The title: “WTF guys? I thought we were all bad guys…”:

There are no positive statements about the event in the thread. In fact, there is a lot of grumbling and criticism of the event in general. It’s lame and would only lead to additional sound effects affecting the gameplay. In comparison, even the Halloween events are praised:

Also, many commenters are disappointed with how the event was openly manipulated by the developers. Some go further and say it’s even “predetermined” which faction would end up winning. Namely, the good guys.

The comment with the most upvotes is accordingly: “Jo, it’s all predetermined. Stupidest event ever”. There are many users who see it similarly and write “Manipulated election, 100%”. User rhinsaur- writes: “This is fake. No way it turned this way.”

There is also a suggestion that those in charge want to prevent a victory for the evil side, to prevent the prospect of Verdansk returning.
