eSports StarCraft: A Return to Real-Time Strategy

Real-time strategy like in Command & Conquer: Generals or 2 wants to bring Crossfire: Legion back. In the test, however, there are still a few hurdles along the way.

That’s right. Rock & Roll. What sounds like a mission from Call of Duty is actually the introduction to the campaign of Crossfire: Legion and shows in just a few words what you can basically expect in this real-time strategy game: a lot of action, a lot of kick, and not quite as much brains.

Update from June 1, 2022:

The developer has informed us that in the in-game store of Crossfire: Legion, neither currently nor as long as the game is under contract with publisher Prima Matter, benefits such as new units can be unlocked with real money. This is only possible with in-game currency. We apologize for the error and have adjusted the corresponding text.

As colleague Peter pointed out in his preview, Crossfire is not just any brand. After all, the multiplayer shooter of the same name, which was released in South Korea, has been extremely successful since 2007. Nevertheless, the series is not very well known in the West – which is probably also due to the 0815 setting.

Anyway, what makes Crossfire: Legion exciting is not the scenario – but the fact that it’s finally a real-time strategy game with a single-player campaign again. We found out how good it is in our review of the Early Access version.

Suits you, if …

  • you like classic real-time strategy games.
  • you are looking for something like Starcraft, but easy to understand.
  • you like to see a lot of exploding.

Doesn’t suit you if …

  • already plays Starcraft.
  • you expect a thrilling story from the single player campaign.

Hooray, hooray, the mercenaries are here

Crossfire: Legion is strongly inspired by Starcraft, even if its setting is more reminiscent of Command and Conquer. That is, you don’t slowly build up an economy and a base like in Age of Empires, but you only have seven or eight different buildings, two resources and little time to get down to business.

The game is divided into three areas, the campaign, skirmish including a co-op mode and the multiplayer, which is supposed to be the heart of the game. As you can already guess from the introduction, the campaign is characterized by the typical US military hurrah, which seems a bit out of time.
