What happened in – Season 2?

In – Season 2 of Chapter 3, the developers at #Epic have turned Fortnite on its head. Because while past updates added umpteen features to the game, this – Season takes something essential out of the game.

Because building, which has always been Fortnite’s unique selling point, has been disabled. It’s even embedded in the current storyline, in which the nasty organization IO takes away building from players in the course of an invasion.

Anyway, now you can’t build anything or create cover. But now you are more mobile and have more shields. And there are now also heavily armed tanks.

What are the positive reactions?

The new features, especially the elimination of building, have been well received by many fans. After all, many a player who actually liked Fortnite could never warm up to building.

Because this feature and its mastery separated the good players from the casuals, and many at some point no longer had fun competing against the so-called “sweaty” players, who immediately exploded in veritable building orgies every time they shot.

• I personally like Fortnite, but a nobuild mode would make it even better for me.

Other players on reddit are just celebrating the fact that a great many good Fortnite players are actually terribly bad shooters, and without their beloved cover, lose mercilessly to players who are intrinsically good at shooters but have never built. Incidentally, Dr. Disrespect already criticized this years ago. In his opinion, Fortnite makes children “soft and cowardly”.

What is being criticized?

But not all players think the innovations are good. After all, building was the only thing that made Fortnite really special. Typical reactions read as follows:

• To me, that’s crazy. Building is the only thing that makes Fortnite unique. Without building, it’s kind of a boring cartoon shooter. Building is what makes Fortnite a great game in my opinion. The skill needed and the way it’s done [das Bauen] extends battles is what makes Fortnite fun and interesting in the first place.
• Tanks make zero sense. They remove building to make shooting more balanced, and add tanks that unbalance shooting even more than building ever did.
• The only interesting thing about this game is the building, why do you want that taken away?

But even among the critics, there are many who find it interesting to play Fortnite without building. They just want an alternative game mode where it’s disabled and one where you can keep building to your heart’s content. The current game mode without building could therefore also be a test phase to see how well this is received by the community.
