Quite hot, the cold war
The developers rely on many established game mechanics of the series, but also try out some new things. As usual, the adventure mainly relies on the bang effects of blockbuster cinema.
Hardly any of the twelve missions do without exaggerated explosions and masses of enemies rushing at the player. Whether you’re in the Ukraine in 1981, fighting for your life in East Berlin during the Vietnam War in 1968, searching for nuclear weapons in Cuba, or taking action in other fictional locations – action is writ large.
Mostly it’s straightforward with various contemporary assault rifles in the hand, only in a few, even more so short sections, you can fly a fighter helicopter or otherwise fight bad guys.
Sneaking past the enemy
However, the wildly mixed squad around the CIA agent “Russel Adler” also operates in stealth mode and thus provides you with a playful change from the constant shooting. The developers resort to sneak missions much more often than in the ” CallofDuty ” past.
In return, they establish some fresh gameplay ideas: This is especially evident in two missions in East Berlin and Moscow, where you have to operate behind enemy lines and gather information. No easy undertaking, because it’s teeming with enemies – but a new sneaking mechanic tells the player when he’s recognized by the opponents.
In keeping with this, the plot isn’t told in as linear a fashion as in previous episodes. Whether certain characters live or die sometimes depends solely on the player’s decisions in dialogs or on the battlefield. You’ll also collect evidence in the missions, which can be important for later missions. Both of these can affect how the story progresses and even how it ends. Who is good and who is evil, what motives the individual protagonists are pursuing, can soon hardly be discerned.
The multiplayer battles
The online mode of ” #ColdWar ” includes the regular multiplayer battles, the Zombies mode and ” WarZone “. Compared to previous years, there are only marginal gameplay adjustments that a majority of gamers should hardly notice. Players will face off in various war scenarios – such as 6 versus 6 or 12 versus 12 battles. The most noticeable change is probably that you can now use vehicles like tanks in the “linked weapons” modes.
The immensely fast multiplayer battles are bursting with hectic shooting, but are still extremely excitingly staged. However, the conventional multiplayer mode and the bloody zombie hunt lack a bit of variety. This is provided by the free Battle Royale mode “Warzone”, which was introduced last year and is now additionally integrated into “Cold War”.
