The outstanding days of soccer legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi seem to be numbered – at least in FIFA 23. In the sports simulation from EA Sports, the two are likely to be replaced by other top players.
There were times in the soccer simulation FIFA when there was no way around Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. For years, the professional footballers were considered the ultimate, always deciding among themselves the title of world footballer. But with increasing age, the former dominance of the exceptional players is fading, and according to Reddit comments, they will have to reckon with a decline in their virtual performance in FIFA 23.

While Ronaldo and Messi have excelled on the green pitch in recent – Season s, their cards in FIFA Ultimate Team have also been among the strongest. However, numerous Reddit users agree that the dominance of the two stars in FIFA 23 could soon come to an end.
On Wednesday, sbkoxly published a Reddit post with the following title: “Will FIFA 23 be the end of Messi and Ronaldo’s reign as the highest ranked players?” This discussion board has been joined by 500 comments within a day, most of which confirm the main question.

Most users suspect a weakening of Messi and Ronaldo’s two gold cards to an overall 90 rating. In FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Messi still has a high 93 rating on the gold card. The gold version of CR7 is at 91 and has thus already lost several points compared to previous years.
“Obviously they both still deserve their 90 overall status,” sbkoxly says, “but I think in the current situation there are other players who could be ranked higher, like Mbappé or Salah or Lewandowski.” There is enough agreement for this thesis in the comments. “You have to consider Salah, Lewandowski, Benzema and Mbappé for the top few spots. I can’t imagine FIFA can justify a rating above 90 for Ronaldo and Messi,” agrees user HamidiateEffect.
Many other reactions go in a similar direction. According to them, the ratings of players like Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah should increase minimally and thus be a little higher than those of Ronaldo and Messi.
It will be a few months before the new ratings of the best players are determined. FIFA 23 is planned for the fall of 2022, probably at the end of September. However, an official release date is still missing. Last year, the top 100 player ratings for FIFA 22 were announced a few weeks before the game’s launch.
