EA loses next license for FIFA 22!

The next club from Italy will not have an original name in 22. Atalanta Bergamo signed an exclusive partnership deal with Pro Evolution Soccer – becoming the third Serie A club to get a fictional club name in the next FIFA.

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. today officially announced that Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio has signed an exclusive licensing deal with Pro Evolution Soccer. The club finished the completed – Season in 3rd place in Italy and will therefore participate in the UEFA Champions League next – Season .

In Konami’s press release, CEO Naoki Morita expresses his satisfaction with the deal:

“As we prepare to unveil the future of the eFootball PES series, I am pleased to announce this exclusive partnership with Atalanta B.C., a truly impressive club with an exciting future at the highest levels of European soccer. Working with our partner clubs is an important element of our strategy to deliver industry-leading video games to soccer fans around the world.”
Luca Percassi, CEO of Atalanta Bergamo, is also pleased with the future collaboration:

“We are very pleased to announce the partnership with Konami – Konami is an international brand that needs no further introduction. The deal is representative of another important moment in Atalanta’s growth.”

FIFA to be without Juve, Roma, Atalanta and Napoli in the future.

Although EA already secured the rights to AC Milan and Inter Milan for itself last – Season , it still seems like EA isn’t necessarily the most concerned with continuing to secure Italian licenses for FIFA.

Atalanta Bergamo will be already the fourth club, which will not be shown under its official name and club logo in the upcoming FIFA 22.

Already in FIFA 20 Juventus Torino was implemented as Piemonte Calcio, in FIFA 21 AS Rome followed, which can be found as Roma FC in the game.

Now, two more licenses have been lost to the competing product from Konami. From the 2021/22 – Season , Atalanta Bergamo will be found exclusively in PES. SSC Napoli will be officially licensed for the last time in FIFA 22, and from the 2022/23 – Season the club will also be found exclusively in PES.

How Atalanta will be called in FIFA 22 (and then Napoli in ) is not yet known. Probably EA will find a similar solution as before for Juve and Rome and name the teams either with the city name (Roma FC) or after the region (Piemonte Calcio) where the clubs are located.
