Team Information:

Team Liquid is one of the most famous and successful multigaming games in the world. The history of the club dates back to 2000 when StarCraft: Brood War was played. Liquid started as a regular clan for the first StarCraft and has grown into an organization that is represented in 14 esports.

First impression

Although Liquid itself appeared in the early 2000s, they came to Dota much later. Liquid made their debut in the second version of Dota. It happened in 2012, when the “liquid” presented the American composition. The five best Liquid include:

  • TC
  • FLUFFNSTUFF
  • ixmike88
  • BuLba
  • Korok

At the time, the American Dota scene did not inspire confidence and was considered second-rate by many. The Liquid Five had to prove otherwise.

Team Liquid American Roster Results

On a regional level, Team Liquid Five showed good results. In fact, they were the first North American team to prove it in several championships between 2012 and 2014. Among them were American Dota 2 League – Season 1, where Liquid defeated EG in the finals, and RaidCall Dota 2 League – Season 2, where Liquid defeated Dignitas in the finals.

The highlight for Team Liquid’s American Dota roster was their performance at The International 2013, where they beat LGD in the playoffs in sensational fashion, showing the consistency of the American Dota scene.

At The International 2013, Team Liquid finished in 7th-8th place, but the players’ ambitions were much higher. Since the fall of 2013, Liquid has been embroiled in a maelstrom of reshuffles. This lasted until The International 2014.

At TI 2014 Liquid, qojqva, DeMoN, waytosexy and BuLba placed 9th to 10th in TC. A similar result put an end to Team Liquid’s American squad.

After losing its last players, the organization announced its retirement from the Dota 2 scene.

The return of Team Liquid

After an unsuccessful appearance at The International 2014, Team Liquid was not represented by the roster in Dota 2 for almost a year. Obviously, the organization did not want to miss the opportunity to show itself in a discipline that was extremely popular during those years. For this reason, Team Liquid announced its return to the competitive scene in October 2015 with the signing of a European squad.

Team Liquid signed the 5jungz mix that formed the legendary KuroKy. The first European roster included:

  • KuroKy
  • FATA-
  • Mind Control
  • JerAx
  • MATUMBAMAN

The most notable championships in 2016 for Team Liquid, led by KuroKy, were their performances at the Nanyang Dota 2 Championship where the team placed 4th, Dota 2 Champions League – Season 6 where the team placed 1st, The Defense – Season 5 where the team placed 1st, and The Shanghai Major 2016 where the team placed 2nd.

At the Shanghai Major, the team showed its competitiveness and declared itself as a strong team in the European region and on the international stage. Later, the team only strengthened its positions, winning BTS Europe # 3 and EPICENTER 2016 and finishing second in ESL One Manila 2016 and The Manila Major 2016, but the main test was waiting for the top five places.

Team Liquid came to The International 2016 as one of the main favorites to win. However, to the surprise of most fans and the esports community, KuroKy and company failed to cross the 7-8 line. Such a performance brought changes in the composition.

At the end of 2016, JerAx and FATA left the team, and Miracle- and BuLba took their place. In early 2017, BuLba also left the team’s camp and GH was invited to replace him. In January 2017, Team Liquid’s “golden” roster was formed, which will lead the organization to the biggest success in Dota 2 in a few months.

Organization and Awards

The CEO of Liquid is occupied by Nazgul Steve Archanset, and Blitz is the coach. Team Liquid has worked with many well-known global brands, including Marvel, Alienware, Monster Energy, SAP, Honda, HyperX, Secretlab, Twitch, Jersey Mikes, and Huya.

Since the inception of Dota-2, the roster has already brought in $22,925,000 in prize money to the organization.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve. The successor to the extremely popular Warcraft 3 modification DotA (Defense of the Ancients), Dota 2 was the company’s first strategy game and was released on the download platform Steam on July 9, 2013. The game is a free-to-play title that can be played completely free of charge and is financed through in-game microtransactions, similar to Team Fortress 2.

Dota 2 is – unlike other big titles like – free to play with all heroes. However, game items can be purchased in the Dota 2 store, but all of them have no effect on the gameplay. Only cosmetic items like different skins for the heroes can be purchased. Just like in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2, it is possible to create your own content via the Steam Workshop.
