Team information:

Team Nigma is a young esports organization represented by a squad. Although the organization was founded in November 2019, the Dota 2 squad includes five of the strongest players in the world. We invite you to get acquainted with the history of a “fresh” organization in the esports industry.

First impression

As mentioned above, the first appearance of Nigma on the open spaces of competitive Dota 2 took place in November 2019. Then the team was announced after a series of mysterious tweets from the club members. Just as mysterious, or rather a certain mysticism and space served as inspiration for the design of the original logo, and the name Nigma is translated as star.

First composition

As mentioned above, the young organization again included quite experienced Dota players. The Nigma Five looks like this:

  • KuroKy;
  • Wonder-;
  • gh;
  • w33;
  • Mind Control;

All Nigma players have successfully migrated from the previous organization – the famous multigaming team Liquid. The transition was due to the fact that the North American organization simply did not satisfy the appetite of the 2017 International Champions and 2019 International Vice Champions.

Nigma results

If you remember the first results of Team Nigma, you may recall The International 2019 or even EPICENTER 2019, where these five were still included in the composition of Team Liquid. In both championships, KuroKy and Company took second place, which is not a bad performance. However, with the transition to my own organization, the results gradually diminished.

Although everything started positively with the victory at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020, in January 2020, then Nigma failed in DreamLeague – Season 13. In the last offline major tournament before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Nigma’s champion list finished 9th to 12th.

The team later failed to qualify for StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor – Season 3, but was rehabilitated at WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War: Mad Moon. In March 2020, the team became the champion of the WeSave! Charity Play – EU & CIS, but later lost at ESL One Los Angeles 2020 – Online: Europe & CIS.

The contrasting performances continued.

In May, the team finished 11th-12th on WePlay! Pushka League S1: Division 1. In June 2020, it will compete in ELS One Birmingham 2020 – Online: Europe & CIS, finishing in 4th place. Later, the team finished 3rd in BLAST Bounty Hunt, 2nd in BEYOND EPIC: Europe/CIS and 1st in OGA Dota PIT S2: Europe/CIS. Incidentally, Nigma was able to win at OGA Dota PIT S2: Europe/CIS without her permanent captain KuroKy, who missed the tournament, and later a few more due to health reasons.

Nigma was replaced in the OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division, where the team finished 3rd in both OGA Dota PIT S3: Europe/CIS and ESL One Germany 2020. In the last two championships, the team finished in 7th-8th place.

Since its inception, Team Nigma has already earned over $455,000 in prize money, which the team has split between the players and the manager, as the team has no sponsors.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve. The successor to the extremely popular Warcraft 3 modification DotA (Defense of the Ancients), Dota 2 was the company’s first strategy game and was released on the download platform Steam on July 9, 2013. The game is a free-to-play title that can be played completely free of charge and is financed through in-game microtransactions, similar to Team Fortress 2.

Dota 2 is – unlike other big MOBA titles like – free to play with all heroes. However, game items can be purchased in the Dota 2 store, but all of them have no effect on the gameplay. Only cosmetic items like different skins for the heroes can be purchased. Just like in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2, it is possible to create your own content via the Steam Workshop.
