Team Information :

Complexity Gaming is one of the most famous and oldest multi-gaming games in North America. The company was founded in 2003 and is now present in several major disciplines including CSGO, , WoW, StarCraft II, FIFA and others.

In this article we will recall key moments from the history of complexity in Dota 2.

First impression

Dota 2 Complexity appeared on the open spaces back in 2012. Then the North American organization signed Team FIRE. The composition included:

  • TC
  • FLUFFNSTUFF
  • ixmike88
  • jeyo
  • HANNAH_MONTANA

In this composition, CoL performed throughout 2021. During this time they managed to prove themselves quite well, taking several first places in weekly tournaments and winning one of the most prestigious championships of that time – The Defense – Season 2.

Also this year the team managed to make it to The International 2012. At the main tournament of the year, the team showed excellent results in the group and took 2nd place there. However, CoL had no luck in the playoffs and the team was eliminated from the championship, finishing 9th–12th.

After TI 2012, Complexity took 3-4 place on joinDOTA Masters Special Edition II. In December 2012, Complexity’s roster was sold out to other teams: TC, FLUFFNSTUFF, and ixmike88 moved to Team Liquid, jeyo ended up in EG, and HANNAH_MONTANA in Fnatic.NA.

After the incident, Complexity took time to put together a new lineup. A year later, in 2014, they were able to return to the professional scene.

In August-September 2014, Complexity announced their return to the professional scene. The organization has signed the StayGreen mix. However, there was no place for all members of this team within the walls of complexity. Limmp, MoonMeander and Riser stayed at the core. Later, DragonFist and Bloody Nine joined the team.

CoL played with this lineup through the end of the year. During this period, the performance was most successful at Dota 2 Canada Cup – – Season 3 where Complexity placed 3rd and Battle of America where CoL placed 2nd.

Wagamama joined the team in late 2014 but didn’t stay in the lineup for long. In 2015, Complexity embarked on a transformation journey.

For almost the whole year they were looking for a decent squad, playing in all qualifiers for major tournaments at the same time. However, the complexity lacks the smallest details everywhere. Within a year, they filled the TOP 3 qualifiers for North America ten times, but managed to break the qualifying threshold three times.

In 2015, they won qualifiers for The International 2015, StarLadder I-Leauge StarSeries – Season 1, and MDL 2015 Winter. At the 2015 Main , Complexity played with Zyzz, Swindlemelonzz, MoonMeander, Zfreek, and Fly. At the championship, the team finished 9th-12th, which was a decent result for the team given their performances so far. However, after TI 2015, CoL will change its list.

After TI, Moonmeander and Fly left the band and formed their own team. In September, mjw and wayto joined the team but left the team in October. In November, Complexity completed their roster with the signings of Chassie, Limmp and Handsken. CoL performed in this composition until August 2016.

During this time, CoL was able to prove itself quite well several times at the major championships. They placed 5th-6th at the 2016 Shanghai Major, 3rd-3rd at the Dota Pit League – Season 4, 5th-6th at the 2016 ESL One Manila, and 4th at the 2016 EPICENTER. However, CoL did not make it to the main tournament. of the Year – The International 2016, which contributed to changes in the squad.

In August, Handsken, Limmp and Chassie left the team. In September Justin, CanceL ^^ and Moo took their places. With this composition, Complexity performed at the 2016 Boston Major, where they placed 9th through 16th.

In 2017 he was constantly looking for the optimal composition.

A time of instability and attempts to find your game
All 2017 complexity experimented with compositions. In February, Cancel ^^ left the team and 747 took his place. In April, both 747 and Monkey left the team for good. Feero and DeMoN took their places in May. After playing several qualifiers and losing qualifiers at The International, DeMoN left the team, followed by Feero. In September, Chassie and Limmp returned to CoL.

In the whirl of constant line-up changes, CoL tried to compete in all kinds of championships. But as has happened with them, the team stayed in the third or fourth places everywhere. The most successful appearances were in the StarLadder i-League Invitational – Season 3 and the World Cyber Arena 2017 North America Finals. In the first tournament they finished 3-4. place, and in the second – 2nd place.

At the end of 2017, CoL placed 4th at the Perfect World Masters.

2018-2019 and the decline in CoL

In 2018, Complexity managed to break into several major tournaments. Among them were ESL One Katowice and The Bucharest Major. In first place, the team finished 13th-16th, and in second place, 9th-11th. After this, Kyle left the team which became an active media player and later moved to Analytics/Commenting.

In May, after the 9-10. Place at EPICENTER XL, Chasie left the team and Adam and MoonMeander joined the team.

In June, the team lost qualifying for The International 2018, finishing 5th there. After that, increased changes in the team began. Adam, Moo and MoonMeander left the team in August. They have been replaced by Skem and Sneyking and EternalEnvy. After playing for just a month, Envy and SneyKing left the team and Skem was removed from club life for his conduct in DreamLeague – Season 10 where the team finished 5th–6th.

In November, the deceased players were replaced by Meracle, Deth, and Adam. In 2019, the team tried to improve the game and gain a foothold in the TOP of the region, but failed. Best CoL results were 2nd place at ESL One Katowice 2019, 7th-8th place at ESL One Mumbai 2019 and 9th-12th Place at MDL Disneyland Paris Major.

The last CoL tournament was Dota Summit 10 in July 2019. Complexity took 4th place, after which they disappeared from the Dota 2 competition stage.

Organization of the awards

Complexity has partnered with companies like We Are Nations, GameStop, Twitch, WinStar, Miller Lite, Extra Life and Herman Miller. Since the formation of the Dota 2 division, CoL rosters have brought the organization over $897,000 in prize money.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve. The successor to the extremely popular Warcraft 3 modification DotA (Defense of the Ancients), Dota 2 was the company’s first strategy game and was released on the download platform Steam on July 9, 2013. The game is a free-to-play title that can be played completely free of charge and is financed through in-game microtransactions, similar to Team Fortress 2.

Dota 2 is – unlike other big MOBA titles like – free to play with all heroes. However, game items can be purchased in the Dota 2 store, but all of them have no effect on the gameplay. Only cosmetic items like different skins for the heroes can be purchased. Just like in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2, it is possible to create your own content via the Steam Workshop.
