Team Information :
Gambit Esports is a well-known multi-gaming in the CIS. The League of Legends and Counterstrike: Global Offensive squads brought the most popularity to the organization.
In 2017, Gambit entered the professional Dota 2 scene. Let’s remember the history of Gambit in the following material.
First impression
The first appearance of Gambit in the professional Dota 2 scene dates back to 2017. At that time, the already well-known multigaming decided to sign the promising stack Thug Life. So, the first roster of Gambit looked like this:
- Daxak .
- cooman
- chshrct
- Bignum
With such a squad, Gambit was able to participate in several not-so-great championships from May 2017 to November of the same year. During that time, they placed 2nd at OvePower Cup – No. 2, 1st at Blood in Streets No. 1, and 1st at ProDotA Cup Europe – No. 23.
Cooman left the team at the end of November. His place was taken by G.
Search for the optimal composition
The year 2018 was dominated by the search for the optimal lineup for DPC tournaments. Almost all positions in the gambit changed during the year.
In February, G and VANSKOR joined the team, replacing Cooman and ALWAYSWANNAFLY. A month later, G left the team, and two months later, VANSKOR and chshrct left the team.
In June, Gambit disbanded its Dota 2 roster, but in October it signed a stack Ferzee. In December, they parted ways with fng and Immersion, who were replaced by VANSKOR and KingR.
The main result of the year was 1st place in MID.TV Challenge Cup, 2nd place in GG.Bet Invitational – Season 1 and 13th-16th place in Kuala Lumpur Major.
However, with the addition of fng to the team, Gambit’s results will change drastically. From 2019 onwards, they will steadily fight for the title of the best team in CIS and give the giants of the world a serious fight more than once.
Light period Gambit
Back in December 2018, Gambit managed to win the qualification for The Bucharest Minor and ESL One Katowice 2019. January 2019 was also successful.
At the beginning of the month, Gambit won the WePlay! Dota 2 Winter Madness, after which they take the second place in the Bucharest Minor. In the same January, they win the qualifying tournament for ESL One Mumbai.
In February follows the victory in WePlay! Dota 2 Valentine Madness, followed by a second place finish at ESL One Katowice 2019. The string of success is loosely overshadowed by 5th to 8th place finishes at WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War: Radiant. A month later, in March 2019, Gambit took over the second tier at StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor – Season 1.
Later, the team finished 3rd at the GG.Bet Birmingham Invitational and 7th-8th at the 2019 OGA Dota PIT Minor.
In June, Gambit finished 2nd at ESL One Birmingham 2019, and finished 7-8th at the second major tournament, EPICENTER Major 2019, which prevented them from going directly to The International 2019.
In the qualification for the main tournament of the year, Gambit failed and finished 5th, after which there was a change in the team. Afoninje was replaced by gpk, and in September Immersion left the team and was replaced by dream`.
In November, Gambit finished 2nd at ESL One Hamburg and 13th-16th at MDL Chengdu Major.
2020 and the continuation of the search for composition
After short-term successes with fng, Gambit showed poor results. Although 2020 started with pretty good placements on WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020 and WePlay! The situation worsened at Dota 2 Tug of War: Mad Moon, where Gambit finished in 4th place.
In April, the team failed at ESL One Los Angeles 2020 – Online: Europe and CIS, where they finished 13th-14th, and a month later at ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: Europe and CIS.
Birmingham 2020 was essentially the last tournament for the previous team. In October, Gambit announced five new players to defend the title. The updated squad includes:
- yy
- Lorenof
- meLes
- XSvamp1Re
With this squad, Gambit finished 6th-7th at the EPIC League Closed Qualifier, 4th at the EPIC League Division 2 Gropu Stage, and 5th-8th at the EPIC League Play-in.
Organization and awards
The team manager is Ivan Karpov, and the coach is distilled. Gambit works with such well-known brands as MTS, VulkanBet and LG UltraGear.
Since the inception of the Dota 2 division, the organization’s rosters have brought in over $676,000 in prize money.
Dota 2
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve. The successor to the extremely popular Warcraft 3 modification DotA (Defense of the Ancients), Dota 2 was the company’s first strategy game and was released on the download platform Steam on July 9, 2013. The game is a free-to-play title that can be played completely free of charge and is financed through in-game microtransactions, similar to Team Fortress 2.
Dota 2 is – unlike other big MOBA titles like League of Legends – free to play with all heroes. However, game items can be purchased in the Dota 2 store, but all of them have no effect on the gameplay. Only cosmetic items like different skins for the heroes can be purchased. Just like in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2, it is possible to create your own content via the Steam Workshop.
