Dota 2 ESL One Malaysia 2022: OG triumphs

Stockholm was just the beginning: after winning the major in Sweden in May 2022. OG in Genting, Malaysia, scored his second major triumph of the – Season , winning at lifted the trophy. The special thing: Once again captain Mikhail “Misha” Agatov was missing, left in Russia so he can secure his visa to Singapore for The International 11 (TI11) in October. So coach Evgenii “Chuvash” Makarov stepped in.

This marks the fourth tournament without “Misha” in 2022 – in Stockholm OG took the win with veteran Sébastien “Ceb” Debs as a substitute, now the team triumphed with “Chuvash” on board. He knows his team’s style of play very well and fit seamlessly into the gameplay. In addition, the coach appeared in captivating form, which allowed him to provide a few highlights on the battlefield himself.

Build-up opponents Fnatic and Thunder Awaken

As with the Major, OG needed to make a run through the Lower Bracket to ascend to the throne: The strong Team Secret took OG’s first tournament life with a 2-1 win. It wasn’t just déjà vu for OG, however: in the Lower Bracket, just as in Stockholm, the team faced the Peruvians of Thunder Awaken as well as the Southeast Asian team of Fnatic – and just as then, the narrow victories over these gave the Major champions a morale boost.

OG in championship form

In the revenge against Team Secret in the Lower Bracket Final – the Europeans lost in the upper part of the tournament tree to the Chinese of Team Aster – OG again performed flawlessly. The quintet secured their ticket to the Grand Final with an emphatic 2-0 win, where Aster awaited the winner of this duel.

The Chinese had only had to surrender three cards in the entire course of the tournament, so they put in a very strong run. But OG in championship form is a different beast. The total number of defeats Aster suffered in Genting doubled in the final, with OG crushing their opponents with a smooth 3:0.

The team will receive around €175,000 in prize money for this success alongside perhaps the more important reward: a major boost to their confidence ahead of TI11. OG will have the chance to immortalize themselves even more prominently in the annals of “” with a third TI victory in Singapore, where they will hopefully be able to compete at full strength.
