Diablo 4 will probably get microtransactions

Blizzard and microtransactions – at least since the costly Pay2Win in Diablo Immortal, two terms that no one likes to see together in one sentence. After the publisher recently sent out a survey about microtransactions in 2 to selected players and shocked them with whopping skin prices, a similar survey about Diablo 4 now followed.

This is how many microtransactions you could expect in Diablo 4

A pricing survey has been posted on the Diablo 4 subreddit, which was apparently sent out to a select few gamers and players. In it, you can see possible prices for different editions of the game that include pre-order bonuses and paid cosmetic items.

Prices fluctuate in the process between 40 Euro (basic game without extras) and 150 Euro (game including various additional contents). However, Blizzard has already emphasized on the Overwatch 2 survey that the listed prices are randomly generated for each user in order to better understand the preferences of the players. So you should take these amounts with a grain of salt.

According to the report, the contents of the higher-priced editions will include cosmetic changes to your character’s armor. Several skins are shown and the description states that you will receive five skins in total, one for each of the Diablo 4 classes. Also listed are back ornaments with an image of ornate angel wings, as well as armor for your mount.

You will probably be able to buy all these different types of skins in the in-game store as well, since the survey also includes a premium currency named Platinum is mentioned.

Finally come a paid Battlepass with cosmetic rewards and up to seven days of early access to the finished game.

No need to worry yet

If you are now worried that Diablo 4 will degenerate into a Pay2Win hell just like Immortal: At least it doesn’t look like it at the moment.

Optional visual customizations in a full-price game are a nuisance, but are now present in almost every major title – even Overwatch, released in 2016, had lootboxes with skins and other cosmetics on board from the start.

In the survey, Blizzard also explicitly points out that all cosmetic customizations are no influence on the game are supposed to have no influence on the game. This also coincides with a statement made by Diablo 4 developer Rod Fergusson last June:

To be clear, D4 is a full-price game developed for PC/PS/Xbox. We’re committed to delivering an incredible wealth of content for years after release, centered around optional cosmetic items and full story-based expansions.

Micha and Maurice addressed the question of whether there’s still Diablo 4 to look forward to, despite the Diablo Immortal eclat, with guest Kalle Koschinsky on the podcast.
