Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni with Crypto-Latios – The current team in July 2022.
Giovanni’s Team: Giovanni has exactly five Pokémon to choose from to send into battle. The first monster is always Snobilikat and the last monster is currently Crypto-Latios. For the second monster, on the other hand, Giovanni always chooses between three different Pokémon. Giovanni’s current team looks like this:
Snobilikat | Rihornior | Latios |
Nidoking | ||
Machomei |
So before the battle, trainers* should ideally put together a team that is effective against all five Pokémon. This is not always easy, because all monsters have different effectiveness and resistance.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best counters against Snobilikat
Snobilikat is also of Normal type in Pokémon GO and therefore only vulnerable to Battle type. So you should definitely have a Battle attacker on your team. The best Pokémon to defeat Giovanni are:
- Lucario with Counter and Incremental Strike
- Machomei with counter and balancing blow/cross blow
- Melmetal with thunder shock and power colossus
For the first Pokémon, it’s always important that you draw out Giovanni’s shields right away. The Rocket boss always uses its shields on the first two charging attacks from you in Pokémon GO. Therefore, it is best to use a quick charge attack. For example, Lucario with Incremental Slash is a good choice here. Normally, Lucario should be enough to defeat Snobilikat.
An alternative is Machomei with two combat attacks, but the charge attacks here are a bit slower. In return, however, Machomei can withstand more damage. Melmetal is also a good choice, because the charge attack Power Colossus is of type combat and fast to use.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best counters against Rihornior
Rihornior is of type soil and rock. It is therefore vulnerable to ice, battle, soil, steel, water, and plant types. Against the last two types, Rihornior even has a double weakness. The best counters to defeat Giovanni in Pokémon GO are therefore:
- Chelterrar with Razor Leaf and Flora Statue
- Sumpex with clay shot and aqua howitzer
- Kyogre with cascade and surfer
The battle against Rihornior is actually pretty easy. You will need a Pokémon with Water or Plant type attacks at best, since Rihornior has a double weakness there. If you use such a Pokémon, the battle will be quick and you will defeat Rihornior easily. This will bring you one step closer to defeating Giovanni in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best counters against Nidoking
Nidoking is of the Poison and Soil types and has several weaknesses in Pokémon GO at once. You can use the Water, Ice, Ground, and Psycho types effectively. The best Pokémon against Nidoking and to defeat Giovanni are:
- Kyogre with Cascade and Surfer
- Stalobor with clay shot and percussion drill
- Mewtu with psycho blade and ice beam
With Nidoking, there are a wide variety of approaches to defeating Giovanni. For example, Kyogre is steadfast in battle and has a fairly fast charging attack with Surfer. However, you can also use ground attackers such as Stalobor or Groudon. Stalobor is fast, but doesn’t take much damage. Groudon is the other way around – it’s a bit slower, but also more steadfast in battle.
Otherwise, you can also choose Mewtu with the charge attack Ice Beam, among others. Mewtu deals a lot of damage in Pokémon GO anyway, no matter how effective it is. You can then quickly defeat Nidoking and Somit Giovanni with Ice Ray.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best counters against Machomei
That’s effective: Machomei has existed since the first generation of the game and is of the Fighting type. This makes it particularly sensitive to flying, psycho and fairy attacks. These are the best counters to defeat Giovanni:
- Mewtu with Confusion and Psychic Strike
- Hoopa with confusion and psychokinesis
- Psiana with confusion and psychokinesis
Should Giovanni use Machomei, you shouldn’t really have too much trouble. After all, there are more than enough counters to choose from. In addition to the three mentioned, there are countless flying and fairy Pokémon that you can use. These include Lavados, Kapu-Fala, Galagladi, Kokowei, Guardevoir, Kramshef and Staraptor.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best counters against Latios
How to defeat Latios from Giovanni: Latios, like Latias, is a Psycho and Dragon Pokémon. This makes it particularly vulnerable to a variety of attackers. You have free choice as long as you use Beetle, Spirit, Ice, Dragon, Unlight or Fairy attacks to defeat Giovanni.
- Rayquaza with Dragon Rod and Rage Attack
- Brutalanda with Dragon Rod and Rage Attack/Draco Meteor
- Guardevoir with charm and magic glow
Fighting Latios could be a bit tougher, as it can take a lot of damage. A good choice here is Rayquaza, which can also take a lot of damage and deals out decent damage with its Dragon attacks. But also with Beetle or Ice Pokémon you are well advised and have a good chance to defeat Giovanni. Ideally, you should have already lured out both of Giovanni’s shields before Latios to make the fight easier.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – The best team against Giovanni
Best Team: Now you know all the counters against Giovanni’s Pokémon, but you are only allowed to take three Pokémon into battle. So which team is best to defeat Giovanni? Here we present a team that, in the best case scenario, could take out each of the five Pokémon Giovanni can choose:
Lucario with Counter and Incremental Strike. | Kyogre with cascade and surfer | Rayquaza with dragon rod and tantrum |
First, you should go for Lucario as your first Pokémon. This already coaxes the shields out of Giovanni at Snobilikat and should defeat the first Pokémon. After that, it comes down to Kyogre. If Giovanni uses Nidoking or Rihornior, then you have to go for Kyogre. If Giovanni uses his Machomei, you should use a Psycho Pokémo like Mewtu or Psiana. Alternatively, flying monsters like Staraptor or Lavados will work as well. Finally, go into battle with Rayquaza against Latios.
If this team is not enough for you, it might be due to the level of your Pokémon. You can then do a trial run against Giovanni, for example, and see which Pokémon he chooses second. Then you can select your team even better and choose exactly the monsters that we recommend here for each Pokémon.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni with Crypto-Latios – How to find him with Super Rocket Radar
How to find Giovanni: You can only find Giovanni if you have a Super Rocket radar. This radar is usually available through special research. For the Pokémon GO Battle Weekend of July 8, 2022, there is such a special research that gives you a Super Rocket Radar.
If you then have the Super Rocket Radar in your inventory, you can search for Giovanni at PokéStops. Turn on the radar and you will be shown at which PokéStops Giovanni could be sitting. If you run to this stop and turn it, Giovanni may appear. However, it can also be a decoy bully that has disguised itself as Giovanni. You can then defeat this bully or simply flee and continue searching for Giovanni.
Each Super Rocket radar lasts for exactly one victory against Giovanni. Once you have defeated him, the radar will break and you will have to earn a new one. However, if you lose the battle against Giovanni or cancel, the Super Rocket Radar will remain.
Pokémon GO: Defeat Giovanni in July 2022 – Tips and tricks in the fight.
Note these tips: There are some tricks that trainers* can consider when defeating Giovanni. Some of them are relevant for every Rocket boss or even in the PvP League, so you can use them there as well:
- Lure out shields: Try to draw out Giovanni’s shields with quick charge attacks early on – he always uses his shields on the first two charge attacks from you.
- Smart shield use: Use your shields wisely. Quick charge attacks from the enemy are usually not that effective, so you can definitely save a shield for later in the fight.
- Recharge multiple times: When your charge attack is charged, you don’t have to use it right away, you can just keep charging it. This allows you to use your charge attack multiple times in a row.
- Hit the right time: Don’t use your charge attacks rashly. When one of Giovanni’s Pokémon is almost defeated, you don’t have to fire out your charge attack. Defeat the monster with your instant attack, then fire the charge attack directly at Giovanni’s next monster.
- Same stop, same Pokémon: If you challenge Giovanni at a PokéStop in Pokémon GO, he’ll have the same Pokémon at that stop all day. So if you lose, you can better prepare your team for battle afterwards – after all, you know exactly which monsters to expect.
- Take advantage of the switching pause: When Giovanni sends a new Pokémon into battle, you can attack it before it appears directly. It’s best to tap your screen permanently, even if you can’t do any damage at the moment. This way, you can launch two or three instant attacks before the opponent’s Pokémon can even attack.
If you take all these tips to heart and use the Pokémon listed above, the battle against Giovanni should be quite doable. Keep an eye on this article, because we’ll update it as soon as Giovanni wants to fight you with new Crypto Pokémon from Pokémon GO. We’ll also explain how to defeat Arlo, defeat Cliff, and defeat Sierra.
