Team Information:
G2 Esports is one of the most reputable multi-gaming organizations in the world. G2 Esports masterfully combines media and performance, making them an extremely popular organization worldwide.
G2’s greatest success has been sought in the professional scene of CSGO, League of Legends, Valorant and other popular disciplines.
Let’s talk about the CSGO department today.
First impression
They first heard about G2 in CSGO in 2015. In February, the European organization signed the ESC Gaming roster, which included:
Innocent
SZPERO
mouz
rattle
MINISE
G2 hasn’t played five as such for a long time. After about 2 months, after unsatisfactory results at ESL One Katowice 2015 – Lan Qualifier, ESEA Invite – Season 18 – Europe, Gfinity Spring Masters 1 and other championships, it was decided to make changes.
In April, MINISE left the team and was replaced by MICHU. Only a few weeks later, MINISE was back in the squad, we will replace him with Rallen.
G2 played with this lineup until fall 2015.
During this time, G2 didn’t have much success. The team constantly competed in all sorts of minor championships, but with more title championships, the result was sad. The most successful achievement can be described as winning the small GamePlan Pro League tournament, as well as getting into the TOP 4 of the Ballistix CS:GO Challenge.
However, the club’s management was clearly insufficient, so the composition was dissolved in September. We quickly found a replacement.
Excellent lineups and attempts to find your game
In September 2016, G2 signed ex-player team Kinguin. The new roster includes:
Scream
Rain
Maikelele
Fox
Dennis
In their newly minted form, G2 placed 5th–6th at the 2015 DreamHack Open London, after which ScreaM left the team. His place was taken by Jkaem. With this line-up, G2 played in the first major tournament in the organization’s history. It was DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015.
Despite being the club’s first appearance at the championship of that status, G2 were represented by experienced Kaeser players who coped with the pressure and excitement. As a result – 3-4. line for G2.
After playing the Major tournament, G2 changed their roster again. Dennis’ place on the team was taken by Aizy.
In early 2016, G2 Esports makes a big transfer. All active rosters have been sold to FaZe Clan. The deal is rumored to have reached $700,000. Without G2, however, they wouldn’t sit for long. As early as February, the organization committed Titan ex-players. Then the composition contained:
Ex6TenZ
RpK
shox
SmithZz
Scream
G2 performed with five such until April 2016. During that time, they placed 3rd at ESL Expo Barcelona and 9th-12th at MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016. This performance led to the replacement of Ex6TenZ. His place was taken by Bodyy. Until the end of 2016, G2 played with this exact line-up.
Unfortunately, the stable setup did not bring stable results. G2 placed 4th in ESL Pro League – Season 3 – Europe in 2016, 2nd place in ESL Pro League – Season 3 – Finals, 1st place in Esports Championship Series – Season 1 – Finals. It seems the composition was found and the results are pretty decent. However, the second half of 2016 did not work out for G2.
Since July, the team has “sunk” noticeably. First, the G2 placed 13th-16th at ESL One: Cologne 2016 and ELEAGUE – Season 1. This was later followed by 8th place at ESL One: New York 2016, 9th place at ESL Pro League – Season 4 – Europe and 5th place -6 -e at EPICENTER 2016.
The last successful performance of 2016 was the performance at Northern Arena 2016 – Montreal where G2 took 2nd place.
Continuation of failures and a glimmer of hope
Not the best performances continued in 2017. Earlier in the year, G2 finished 12th-14th at ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017, which was the final straw. After failing at the third World Cup in a row, the club’s management decided to radically change the composition. Shox and Bodyy stayed with the team and were joined by NBK-, apEX and kennyS. G2 spent an entire – Season with this line-up. Despite this, the team did not manage to achieve success, although 2017 saw high places much more often than 2016.
During the year the team took 1st place at the 2017 DreamHack Open Tours, 2nd place at ESL Pro League – Season 5 – Europe, 1st place at ESL Pro League – Season 5 – Finals and 1st place at DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017. However, all these successful performances during the – Season were overshadowed by hugely unsuccessful tournaments. Among them was ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017 and 12-14. place, PGL Major Krakow 2017 and 9.-11. Place, Intel Extreme Masters XII – Oakland and 9th-10th Place.
At the beginning of 2018, the situation has not changed dramatically. G2 did not fare well again at the Major tournament, finishing 5th-8th at the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018.
For most of 2018, G2 has been experimenting with the lineup. They sign Mixwell on probation in March, with Shox and SmithZz returning alongside Ex6TenZ in June. At the end of the year, Lucky and JaCkz replaced Ex6TenZ and SmithZz.
In the whirl of such frequent shuffling within the roster, G2 unsuccessfully attempt to compete in major and not-so-major championships. They constantly occupy “middle” positions, occupying 5-8 places in the championship. This was the case with Esports Championship Series – Season 5 – Finale, ESL One: Cologne 2018, DreamHack Open Valencia 2018 and other title tournaments. There was also an attempt to play at the Major championship. This time it was FACEIT Major: London 2018 where G2 finished 9th-11th.
At the end of 2018, G2 leveled the stats a bit and managed to take 2nd place at the 2018 PLG Grand Slam, but 2019 again didn’t bring G2 big wins. And this despite the fact that the club continued to “test” the ground, changing players and positions within the team. For example, in February Ex6TenZ left the band and in March body left too. Replaced AmaNEk and later nexa with huNter-.
Probably, the changes were facilitated by the performance at Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019, where G2 finished 12th-14th. After another disastrous performance at the Major tournament, G2 finished 3rd at World Electronic Sports Games 2018, 3rd-4th at Charleroi Esports 2019, 1-4th at ESL Pro League – Season 9 – Europe. 1st place and 3-4 at DreamHack Open Tours 2019.
In the summer, G2 finished the 2nd series of GG.Bet Cologne Invitational and ESL Pro League – Season 9 – Finale. G2 also became champions of the Good Game League 2019.
However, the string of good performances was interrupted again as G2 failed the Major tournament once again. This time it was StarLadder Berlin Major 2019 where G2 took the 9-11. occupied place.
The end of 2019 turned out to be not bad for the Europeans as the team finished 2nd at cs_summit 5 and won the Champions Cup final.
2020 and the era of online
2020 has not changed dramatically. G2 continued to show extremely “average” results, but these were sometimes replaced by high places. In February, the team took 1st-3rd place at the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 regular – Season and a month later took 2nd place at the Intel Extreme Masters XIV – World Championship.
All in the same March, the team failed ESL Pro League – Season 11: Europe, finishing 10th-12th there.
In May, the team placed 2nd at ESL One: Road to Rio – Europe.
In June, G2 finished one step short of the championship at DreamHack Masters Spring 2020: Europe.
Several extremely unsuccessful tournaments followed later. For example, G2 placed 11th-12th at ESL Pro League – Season 12: Europe, 7th-8th at Intel Extreme Masters XV – New York Online: Europe, and 12th at DreamHack Open in autumn 2020.
In October, G2 conducted a noisy broadcast. The club signed FaZe star Niko, who had teamed up with his brother HuNter.
The year ended 1-3 for G2. Place at BLAST Premier: Fall 2020 Regular – Season , 3-4. 1st place at Intel Extreme Masters XV – Beijing Online: Europe and 4th place at BLAST Premier Circuit 2020.
