We present to you the history of Fnatic in CS.
First impression
The history of Fnatic dates back to 2004. Then the first composition was formed, which included:
Solido
XeqtR
Magix
Digital
MegatoN
The early Counter-Strike days were famous for their constant shuffling and lineup changes, so very soon the Fnatic Five looked different.
The loudest results in the Counter-Strike era.
In early versions of Counter-Strike, Fnatic was in the spotlight, often winning the best tournaments of the time. Since 2005, they have regularly reached the top spots.
In 2005 they won the CPL Singapore 2005, and in early 2006 Fnatic finished second in shgOpen 2006 and later won the 3rd – Season of the Counter-Strike Champions League. In June of the same year Fnatic won the qualification for ESWC Sweden 2006 and at the tournament itself 2- th line.
Then there were second places at WSVG DreamHack Summer 2006 and ESWC 2006, WEF 2016 and NGL-One – Season 1. In September 2006 Fnatic won CPL Singapore 2006 and in October Wonderbase 2006. In December they took third place at WSVG 2006.: New York and 1st place at CPL Winter 2006.
In 2007 the Swedish car gained momentum. During the year they won 8 prestigious tournaments and reached the finals 6 times. In 2008 the results were not so rosy, but Fnatic was still on top.
The peak of the Counter-Strike 1.6 roster was in 2012, when Fnatic won Copenhagen Games 2012, Fnatic Play League 2012, ESPORTSM 2011/2012, DreamHack Summer 2012, GameGune 2012, Pro Gamer Series Exponor 2012 and DreamHack Bucharest 2012, the last tournament for the Counter-Strike squad.
At the end of 2012, Fnatic switched to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Danish time
Although Fnatic was a Swedish organization with mostly Swedes playing throughout history, they decided to rethink their views with the transition to CSGO. The first CSGO roster consisted almost entirely of Danes and included:
Friis
Spur
Rytter
Mooddii
karrigan
However, such a squad did not last long and after the first minor setbacks Karrigan and Moddii left the team.
In early 2013, Xyp9x joined the team and later MODDII returned with Kariggan. The reshuffle continued until August 2013. At that point, Fnatic signed the SY_b team, which consisted entirely of Swedish players. This was the beginning of the Fnatic era.
The beginning of the Fnatic era
The new squad included both young players and – Season ed Counter-Strike veterans. The five looked like this:
MODDII
rinse
schneider
jw
Devilwalk
Fnatic played with this lineup until November 2013, during which time they managed to finish second several times in not-so-great championships. However, in November Fnatic finished 2nd at MSI Beat IT 2013, where Pronax was played instead of MODDII.
They played the same five at DreamHack Winter 2013, the first major tournament in history. There Fnatic beat the best team of the time, NiP, to become the first world champion.
In 2014, Fnatic is off to a pretty “mediocre” start. In March, they finished 5th to 8th at the ESL Major Series One Katowice 2014. Similar results are achieved until the summer of the same year.
In August, Fnatic finished 3-4th at Gfinity G3, then second at ESL One: Cologne 2014, this time against their main rival NiP.
At this championship, Fnatic played with a new squad. Then the top 5 included:
JW
Flusha
pronax
KRiMZ
olofmeister
These five will soon become the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team in the world.
Era of Fnatic
After finishing second at ESL One: Cologne 2014, Fnatic has a solid run of tournaments. They took 1st place at StarLadder StarSeries X in August and then won a number of smaller events in September. In late September, they placed 3-4th at DreamHack Invitational II and later placed second at Hitbox Arena Champioship 3. In October, Fnatic won FACEIT League – – Season 2 and in November they became ESWC 2014 champions, after which they won and at Fragbite Masters – Season 3.
However, in the same November, Fnatic failed to make it to DreamHack Winter 2014, where they finished 5th to 8th.
In 2015, however, the Swedish team continues to gain momentum.
In January, they placed 4th at the MLG X Games Aspen Invitational, and in February, they won Clutch Con 2015.
In the same month, they become IOS Pantamera, First Person Lover Challenge and Kings of Majors champions. They consolidated their success in March 2015, beating NiP in the finals of ESL One: Katowice 2015 to become two-time World Champions. But the winning procession doesn’t end there either.
In June, Fnatic won DreamHack Open Summer 2015 and ESL ESEA Pro League – Season 1 – Europe, and then became the champion of the last part of ESL ESEA Pro League – Season 1.
In August, Fnatic won ESL One: Cologne 2015 and became a three-time world champion. A big defeat overtakes them only at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015, where the team finished 5th to 8th. However, they quickly redeem themselves, winning the FACEIT 2015 Stage 3 Finals in November and the Fragbite Masters – Season 5 and ESL ESEA Pro League – Season 2 Finals in December.
Fnatic won two major championships in December with a revamped squad. Instead of Pronax, Dennis then played.
The sunset begins
After Pronax slowly but surely left, Fnatic started to “sink”. In January 2016, they won the StarLadder i-League StarSeries XIV, and in February they took second place at ESL Expo Barcelona. In March, they won the Intel Extreme Masters X – World Championship, but a wake-up call came at MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016, where the Swedes finished 5th-8th. A string of 3-4 finishes at major tournaments followed, leading to a 3-4th place finish at ESL One: Cologne 2016. Fnatic tried to redeem themselves and even won ESL Pro League – Season 4 – Europe with a completely new squad. At that time Olofmeister, Dennis, Goon, Twist and Lekr0 played for Fnatic.
In January 2017, Fnatic played at ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017 again with a renewed squad. There they finished in 3-4th place. This was the beginning of a full sunset.
Throughout 2017, Fnatic finished in the “middle” positions in the championships. At ESL One: Cologne 2017 the team finished 9th-11th, at PLG Major Krakow 2017 5th-8th, at DreamHack Masters Malmo 2017 9th-12th. The whole year was also accompanied by constant player changes and transfers between the GODSENT organization.
In 2018, Fnatic was unable to recover. In January at ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018, the team finished 5th-8th, and in September at FACEIT Major: London 2018, the team finished 9th-11th. The highlight was the 20-22nd place at Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019, after which Fnatic improved their positions slightly. In October, the team won DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019 with KRIMZ, JW, Brollan, Flusha and Golden. With the same five, Fnatic finished 3-4th at the Esports Championship Series – Season 8 – Finals and 2nd at the ESL Pro League – Season 10 – Finals.
2020 and the coronavirus pandemic.
2020 started on a positive note for Fnatic. The team finished 3-4th at the Intel Extreme Masters XIV – World Championship and 1st at the ESL Pro League – Season 11: Europe in February. However, with the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, the results deteriorated again. Fnatic finished 12th at ESL One: Road to Rio – Europe in May, 7th-8th at DreamHack Masters Spring 2020: Europe, 9th-12th at ESL One: Cologne 2020 Onilne – Europe, and 11th-12th at ESL Pro League – Season 12: Europe. In October, they placed 3rd-4th at Intel Extreme Masters XV – New York Online: Europe, 6th place at DreamHack Open Fall 2020, and 13th-16th at Intel Extreme Masters XV – Beijing Online: Europe
