Team Information:
Cloud9 is one of the most well-known and versatile mediums in North America and beyond. C9 rosters are offered in a variety of eSports disciplines, including Dota 2, CSGO, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Ovewatch and more.
In this text, we invite you to take a closer look at the CSGO division.
First impression
For the first time in the CSGO arena Cloud9 appeared in the summer of 2014, when the organization signed the former complexity players:
Hiko
nothing
SEMPHIS
sgares
Shroud
The first test for the newly formed team was their performance at ESL One: Cologne 2014, where the team finished 5th to 8th, but this can be considered a pretty good result.
First results
In addition to the participation in ESL One: Cologne 2014, C9 showed itself in several other tournaments in the first year of activity.
Thus, the team took 2nd place at CEVO – Season 5 Professional, 1st place at GXL Universe 2014 CS: GO, 5th to 6th place at FACEIT League – – Season 2, 9th to 12th DreamHack Winter 2015 and 5th to 6th place at ESEA – Season 17 – Global division invite.
At the end of the year, C9 replaced Hiko with ShahZaM.
In the following – Season , C9 continued to appear in all kinds of championships of different caliber. For example, Cloud9 finished 7th-8th at the MLG X-games Aspen Invitational, 2nd at Conlutch Con 2015, and 9th-12th at the third major tournament ESL One: Katowice 2015.
Later, the team finished 4th at Gfinity Masters 1 and 7-8, first at ESEA – Season 18 – Global Invite Division and then at Gfinity Spring Masters 2.
Recent performances led to changes in the squad, with ShahZam and SEMPHIS leaving the team, and Skadoodle and fREAKAZOiD taking their place. In the updated roster Cloud9 quickly gained form and also quickly dominated the American scene. At the same time it showed good results in international tournaments.
С9 becomes the champion of HTC Reborn Invitational, ESL ESEA Pro League – Season 1 – North America, takes 2nd place at ESL ESEA Pro League – Season 1 – Finals, 2nd place at Electronic Sports World Cup 2015 and FACEIT 2015 Stage 2 Finals. A little later, the team will end up in the 3-4th line of CEVO – Season 7 Professional.
A series of good results is interrupted by a performance at ESL One: Cologne 2015, where C9 finished 9th-12th. In the same year, C9 tried again to prove himself at the major tournament and was again unemployed. At DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015, the clouds finished 9th to 12th.
Look for the optimal composition and the beginning of Cloud9.
The next years were not very stable for C9 results. The team showed well in local championships and also forced wrestling in international competitions, but in the main competitions luck bypassed C9. This was the case at the MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016. Later, it was the same at PGL Krakow 2017.
In 2016-2017, Cloud9 was looking for an optimal roster. In 2016, they signed the young talent Stewie2K. In the same year fREAKAZOiD left the team and later C9 signed another promising player – automatic.
In 2017, two legends of the North American professional scene became active. Shroud and nothing were no longer active players and were replaced by RUSH and Tarik.
During this time, C9 managed to win several important tournaments. This was certainly the ESL Pro League – Season 4 – Finals and Americas Minor Championship – Krakow 2017, it was the second that gave C9 a huge boost.
Also in the list of achievements for 2017 were 3rd-4th place at Esports Championship Series – Season 3 – Finals, 2nd place at ESL One: Cologne 2017, 3rd-4th place at ELEAGUE CS: GO Premier 2017 and first places at DreamHack Open Denver 2017 and iBUYPOWER 2017.
The updated squad clearly showed their best side, but their main achievement was ahead.
World Championship and Rapid Fading
In January 2018, C9 makes a historic moment: the team wins the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018, defeating FaZe Clan in the finals and becoming the first North American team to win the Major championship. Cloud9’s triumph was short-lived, however.
In February, the team finished 2nd at the WESG 2017 North American Finals and cs_summit 2, after which a rapid decline began.
The team finishes 9th-11th in the StarLadder & i-League StarSeries – Season 4, after which the major reshuffling phase begins.
Skadoodle is the first to go. Stewie2K left the team behind. FNS joins the team and a little later STYKO comes for the trial period. A little later Golden, Flusha and KioShiMa joined the band.
Of course, these mixes were accompanied by devastating results. After winning the major at the beginning of the year, Cloud9 quickly lost its form. The best result after Boston was 4th place in ESL Pro League – Season 7 – North America and 2nd place in Esports Championship Series – Season 5 – North America. There were also 9-12 finishes at ESL Pro League – Season 7 – Finals and ESL One: Cologne 2018, culminating in the performance at FACEIT Major: London 2018, where the reigning champions finished at 12-14 lines.
2019-2020 or a whirlwind of reshuffles and futile attempts to return to its former greatness
2019 was even crazier in terms of reshuffles
At the beginning of the year, Flusha left the band, and later Cajunb joined the team. After that, Golden leaves C9. Towards the middle of the year, C9 radically changes its roster. The new five look like this:
Daps
Koosta
TenZ
Mix well
JamezIRL
However, C9 should play with such a composition until fall 2019. In October TenZ leaves the team and later the rest of the performers change.
Cloud9 also showed absolutely no results in 2019: 9-11. at Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019, 13-16. at DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019, 9-12. at ESL Pro League – Season 9 – Finals, 13-16. at ESL Pro League – Season 10 – America.
2020 began with a revamped roster. The team consisted of: JT, motm, oSee, Floppy, Sonic. The five played in this lineup until September, but the refreshed roster didn’t help. Therefore, C9 has reached the standard business in recent years – reshuffles.
In September, HenryG joins the team, taking the position of head coach and having to build a squad from scratch. HenryG started with Alex, who moved from Team Vitality and became a key player in C9, taking the place of the in-game leader. Later, Floppy, Mezii, Es3tag and Xeppa joined the team.
Not to say that the next lineup change helped much, but in 2020 Cloud9 entered the TOP-4 several times, albeit in tournaments that were not too big.
Organization and awards
The founders of the organization are Jacques Etienne, who is also CEO, and his brother Paullie Etienne.
The lineup is managed by HenryG and Tiffany Chiu. Alex is the captain of the CSGO division, and Elmapuddy and m1cks are coaching positions.
C9 works with a number of major brands, including PUMA, Red Bull, Twitch, HP’s OMEN, HyperX, Secretlab, AT&T, Microsoft and EPOS Audio.
Since its inception, the CSGO division has already generated over $2,460,000 in prize money for the organization.
CS:GO
CS:GO Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO for short) is a computer game from the genre of online tactical shooters. It was developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment and is the fourth part of the Counter-Strike series. The game was released on August 21, 2012 for Windows, Linux, macOS, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A release for the PlayStation 3 in Europe failed to materialize for unknown reasons. Global Offensive achieved a Metascore of 83 points. Since September 14, 2017, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has also been available in China via the Perfect World client. In December 2018, the game was switched to a free-to-play model, which drew criticism.
