Corona scare: FIFA 20 Global Series is suspended

The spread of the corona virus is getting bigger and bigger. After real sport came to a standstill, the virus is now also having an impact on esports. The 20 Global Series and with it the Grand Final of the Virtual Bundesliga have been suspended for the time being.

It’s a time when unforeseen things can happen. The coronavirus COVID-19 is still on the rise and while more and more major events are being canceled and the ball is no longer rolling in Europe’s biggest football leagues, things should at least be going on on the virtual pitch – until now.

Electronic Arts suspends all competitive live events

The 12 participants in the Virtual Bundesliga were actually supposed to meet in Cologne at the end of March – but due to the current situation, nothing will come of it.

The original statement that the final should take place without fans was followed shortly afterwards by the official statement on the suspension of the event.

The corresponding tweet only mentions a suspension due to the corona virus. It also says on the publisher’s homepage that even all events of the FIFA 20 Global Series are affected. Not only events organized directly by EA are affected, but also those organized by third parties under EA’s license. For the publisher, the focus is primarily on the safety of everyone involved :

“Our decision is primarily based on ensuring the safety of our participants, employees and partners, as well as ensuring that the EA Sports FIFA 20 Global Series is not involved in the spread of the pandemic.”

Other games are also affected

At least Electronic Arts is putting a stop to the spread of the virus. However, not only the esports events in FIFA 20 are affected, but all events in the publisher’s games , as EA states on its own homepage.

This includes FIFA Online 4 Live Events, Apex Legends Global Series and Madden NFL 20 Championship Series.

EA does not provide any further information at this time. It is therefore unclear whether the events will be suspended indefinitely and made up for, or whether the further course will have to be canceled completely – this is not the time we have heard such news in esports. Holding the events online also seems out of the question at the moment, which leaves even professionals at a loss. If there is any new information about this, you will of course find out from us as always.

FIFA 22 – FUTs

What could be cooler than just relaxed and doing some sofa sports on the side? In FIFA 22, the player is on the move fast, but without getting sore muscles. With the Ultimate Team Event cards, the collecting instinct is now also satisfied. However, the FUT Heroes keep creeping into my mind, so here are the best Ultimate Team Event cards that are definitely worth adding to your collection.

Heroes cards selected by EA for top qualities

Admittedly, the FUT heroes will cost quite a bit of coin, but it turns out that EA has once again brought some top-class players into the game when it comes to selection. As a collector and hunter, it’s an added attraction for FIFA gamers to now include their own favorite heroes in the portfolio and benefit from their individual . Both in the game and in team building, the FUTs will revolutionize the game once again.

EA SPORTS FC: FIFA GAME SERIES TO BE CONTINUED UNDER NEW NAME

Of course, the soccer simulation game series will not be discontinued completely. After FIFA 23, EA will relaunch the game under the name EA Sports FC and market it independently. Old FIFA hares should now become quite an ear, after all, the EA Sports Football Club used to be a part of the actual game for years. A lot of playing was rewarded, points could be collected and items, boosts or balls for the individual game modes could be unlocked.

In this context, there could also be a complete revolution of the classic game. There is a heated discussion in the FIFA community about whether the game, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will be free-to-play. This option is said to be on the table for the game makers from EA, because: It seems that EA earns most of its money with the purchases of FIFA Points in the game mode Ultimate Team and not with the sale of the game itself.
