Since the Announcement of Diablo Immortal in the course of BlizzCon 2018. we know: Blizzard wants Mobile games for all major franchises Develop. And since April 29, 2022 is clearthat a mobile piece of software for the Warcraft universe is already in the starting blocks. Then yesterday, May 3, 2022 there was the early announced unveiling of Warcraft Arclight Rumble. And the feedback in the form of comments and “thumbs down” makes it clear: many core fans are anything but thrilled.
Clash Royale, but more warcrafty
Before we get to the players’ reactions, let’s first point out, that Susanne has already been able to play Warcraft Arclight Rumbleand her first impression is very positive. This is just a fairly typical mobile game with strong “Clash Royale” vibes and tower-open mechanics, only more warcrafty, charming and extensive.
So you could say that, for the umpteenth time, Blizzard is grabbing an already familiar gameplay principle and taking it to a new level of quality. In the case of World of Warcraft, for example, that didn’t work so badly at the time. And if you look at how much money is made in the mobile sector every year, it’s only logical to position yourself in this business segment with strong brands like Warcraft, Diablo and the like.
Blizzard mobile games? No, thanks!
The fans, of course, don’t care at first where you can make good money as a developer. They have their own interests, tastes and expectations. And if you ask those fans what game announcement they’re hoping for from Blizzard, the answer is certainly not “a mobile game” or “the next games-as-a-service product,” but rather Warcraft 4, a AAA action-adventure/RPG in the Warcraft/Starcraft setting, a Starcraft shooter, or a WoW 2.0.
And that’s exactly what is reflected, similar to the announcement of Diablo Immortal at the time, among the official trailers for Warcraft Arclight Rumble, but also everywhere else on the net. Here are just a few comments, from which you can read the basic mood in the community:
- Blizzard used to make trend-defining games. Now they make copies of things that are trendy.
- I’m sensing “Hey kids, I hope you have access to your parents’ credit cards” vibes everywhere here.
- Remember when Blizzard put games on hold because they weren’t good enough to be among the best the industry had to offer? Good old times!
- The fans: Can we have Warcraft 4? Blizzard: You can now play Warcraft in the Google Play Store!
- I would play it if it was offered as a mini-game in the inns of WoW.
- Here we see the reason why Youtube has hidden the Dislike indicator.
Lots of dislikes for Blizzard
Just because you don’t see the “thumbs down” on Youtube by default anymore doesn’t mean no one is giving it a thumbs down, of course. Here are two screenshots from last night showing the like/dislike ratio for two of the five videos:

What is your first impression of Warcraft Arclight Rumble? Do you give the game a fair chance? Do you, like the author of these lines, simply not belong to the target group? Or do you dislike it so much that the “Clash Royale with Warcraft stamp” will definitely not end up on your smartphone, even though you actually like to play good mobile games?
