In Call of Duty: Warzone, numerous players have encountered mysterious messages in the middle of matches in recent days – in English or in Cyrillic letters. What is this all about?
What kind of messages have been discovered? In the past few days, many – Season 5 players have reported mysterious in-game messages that they randomly received in the Warzone during matches.
This involves the screen briefly distorting like an atmospheric glitch on TV and then one of the following messages flickering on briefly:
- Know your History (English, stands for: Know your history).
- обречены на ее повторение (Russian, stands for: are doomed to repeat).
The Russian message
What do these messages mean? Putting the two messages together, they make a clear reference to the famous quote:
- Those who do not remember their past are doomed to repeat it
This quote is said to have been used by Winston Churchill, among others, in a speech during the Cold War. And that, as well as the distorted visuals, many gamers, fans and experts believe to be a direct reference to Call of Duty 2020, which, according to leaks, will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War and will be set in the Cold War just like the original Black Ops.
Is there a CoD 2020 Reveal in the Warzone?
That speaks for a Reveal in the Warzone: The news is also the next indication for numerous experts that the 2020 Call of Duty Reveal could take place in Warzone.
For a while now, there have been numerous rumors saying that the new Call of Duty could be introduced with the help of Warzone. Also, the developers already said that Warzone will be a kind of constant linking further CoD offshoots together and will be used for sharing news about the CoD brand.
Moreover, more and more Easter Eggs and data have been found that suggest that Warzone and the new COD could be closely connected – for example:
- An Easter Egg with a teddy bear and a typewriter in a Cold War-style bunker – a reference to a scene from Black Ops.
- Voicelines for Frank Woods, an iconic character from Black Ops.
- A nuclear weapon that appears to be from the Cold War era.
- The RC Bomb Car, a small remote-controlled bomb, was discovered in one of the Warzone bunkers. This is an iconic kill streak from Black Ops.
- The spy plane, also a kill streak from Black Ops, was also discovered in the Warzone data.
And most recently, the well-known leaker ModernWarzone recently spoke out. He has already correctly predicted all sorts of details about Warzone and Modern Warfare, and now claims that the Call of Duty 2020 reveal will take place in the Gulag area, that is, in Warzone.
So there’s something to be said for Activision actually using Warzone to showcase or announce the new CoD 2020 in some form. How exactly, however, is not known.
Keep in mind, though: for the most part, these are not officially confirmed details. So consider the whole thing with the appropriate caution.
When will we know more? When exactly CoD 2020 will be officially unveiled or released is currently unknown. However, it is definitely known that a new Call of Duty will be released in 2020. And the first information shouldn’t be too long in coming.
Because the frequency of Easter Eggs, leaks and potential teasers has increased noticeably lately, which some people interpret as a signal that there will soon be more to see about CoD 2020.
