Activision revealed details about the future of CallofDuty : WarZone in its “Earnings Conference Call.” And from the looks of it, the Battle Royale will benefit significantly more from the ” #ColdWar ” release than previously thought.
What’s going on? The CoD makers at Activision told us more about the merging of Call of Duty: Warzone with #BlackOps Cold War in their “Q3 2020 Earnings Call” yesterday (October 29). And there’s some strong news for fans of the battle royale Warzone.
Because apparently the collaboration of the two shooters goes much further than previously thought. So the two CoDs not only share the Battle Pass and their level system – which was previously confirmed. Much more, the Warzone simply gets all the weapons and cosmetics of the new premium title.
CoD integrates Cold War into Warzone and not vice versa
What specifically did the developers say about this? There is only one paragraph in the complete “Call” that describes the integration of Cold War into the Warzone. But it has a lot to offer:
The in-game content of Black Ops Cold War works according to the same system that was so well received by players in Modern Warfare. And from the first – Season with in-game content, Cold War will be integrated into the Warzone.
We’re bringing Cold War’s characters and weapons into the free-to-play experience along with extensive new content to ensure Warzone remains both a great experience and a powerful ramp for the franchise’s premium content.
What does it mean? Warzone worked so well together with Modern Warfare that the CoD makers are trying to repeat the same thing this year.
The paragraph actually reads like all the new weapons from Cold War are coming to Warzone, as well as the operators and many new cosmetics. Assuming the “Modern Warfare” release, that would mean about 40 new weapons could become available for the Warzone in one fell swoop. This would increase the arsenal to over 100 weapons and increase the diversity of the Warzone.
By “premium content” here we mean “paid content”. So all the cosmetic bundles and items that you can buy CoD-Points. But also the Battle Pass, which you can level up in both games.
Start in December with the first – Season
When does it start? The CoD makers didn’t name a specific date for the integration of the “Cold War” content, but it will probably all start during December. Once the first – Season starts, the new CoD and Warzone will be merged and share at least:
- The level system – you could then increase your account level in both games.
- The Battle Pass – Here you can also progress in Warzone and Cold War.
- The weapons – All weapons from Cold War are also available in Warzone
- Loadouts – You can use the loadouts from Modern Warfare and Cold War in the Warzone.
- Heaps of Cosmetics – The visual items from Cold War also work in Warzone.
How does this work? It’s not quite clear from the “call” yet. There are still a few unanswered questions. For example:
- How do you unlock Modern Warfare weapons in the Warzone if you haven’t played the 2019 CoD?
- Loadouts in Modern Warfare & Cold War work differently, how does this fit together?
- Is the gameplay of the warzone changed with the customizations with Cold War?
- Is there a new map with Cold War setting?
In the next 1-2 weeks the developers want to reveal more about it. But so far it looks like Warzone players can expect a big content drop in December. The next weeks will show if it will stay with the weapons and cosmetics. Until then, you can get 25 free cosmetics for Cold War, CoD MW, Warzone and CoD Mobile.
In Cold War you can swim – Is this coming for the Warzone?
Completely new map becomes more likely again
What else could be coming for Warzone? The new statements fuel old speculations again. There is nothing else official, but there are already some leaks. The well-known warzone leaker “TheGamingRevolution” already talked about the possibility of a new map at the end of August.
The leaker writes on Twitter: “It’s a new map […]. Verdansk was destroyed during the Cold War and then rebuilt. The bunkers or the Gulag are the only thing that will remain the same”. In another tweet he says, that Verdansk will be destroyed by a Nuke event and that this incision will then represent the transition from Warzone to Cold War. Players also claim to have already found a first glimpse of the map.
However, only the next few weeks will show whether a new map is really coming. Also, whether the gameplay will change with the new CoD. But with their statements, the developers make it clear that there is a lot coming to the Battle Royale in December and it will be exciting to see how the Warzone changes by the end of the year.
