Verdansk is the first map that CoD Warzone launched with 2 years ago. This is now apparently to return, as the developers confirmed in a livestream. But the choice of words makes fans wonder who will be able to play the “new, old map” then.
What kind of map is this? Verdansk was the first map of CoD Warzone, which started in 2020. There are two variants, one is set in our time, later the map was revised with an update and corresponded to the time in 1984.
The map was very popular with players. Then came the big Pacific update and Verdansk was replaced by the new island map Caldera. This one tended to have a hard time with fans and, like many, didn’t feel like CoD, the game was in a disastrous state despite – for some, precisely because of – the giant update.
Now an announcement has left many hopeful: The map Verdansk, missed by players, is to return in 2023. But fans have already discovered a possible catch. Verdansk might not even be released on consoles and PC.
But first, let’s summarize for you what the developers said in the first place. The clip was also shared on reddit, the original has since been removed:
Verdansk returns, but only on “certain platforms”
This is what we learn: The short clip shows the corresponding statement of the developers that Verdansk will return to Call of Duty in 2022. So, at first glance, it sounds quite simple: the popular map, which is missed by numerous fans, is to return. Fine thing.
But players have “read the fine print” out of the statement. Literally, it says: “Verdansk will return in 2023 on certain platforms”.
Some gamers already suspect that this might not be about consoles or the PC, but mobile platforms. Because with CoD Warzone Mobile, a spin-off was confirmed on March 10 for iOS and Android.
That’s why fans are now speculating: the announcement of Verdansk’s return and the choice of words actually refers to the yet-to-be-revealed mobile version of CoD Warzone.
Other players speculate that with the release of CoD Warzone 2 Verdansk could return on old-gen consoles.
Is CoD Warzone Mobile coming in 2023 with Verdansk?
This speaks for CoD Warzone Mobile: The theory is supported by leaks that went around in mid-March. This one revealed CoD Warzone Mobile before the official announcement. Also, the leak talked about Verdansk being included in the mobile version in a new form.
Since the leak has otherwise been confirmed so far, the info with reference to Verdansk could also be correct. If this is true, a release of the mobile version before 2023 is unlikely. The artwork in the tweet linked above is also reminiscent of Verdansk.
However, many hope that the map favorite will somehow still return to consoles and PC.
What do players say about the theories? In the comments under the reddit post, many hope that Verdansk will not appear only on Android and iOS. They don’t like the Caldera map and miss the old one.
That CoD Warzone Mobile is coming seems to be all but certain for most. And some gamers seem to be really looking forward to it, for example noob_music_producer writes: “I’ll be a full time mobile gamer if they bring the old Verdansk stuff and crisp gunplay to mobile.”
RevengeFeelsSweet is certain: “Mobile will have a great future.” However, many commenters would rather see Verdansk return to PS4 and Xbox One. They would love to see Verdansk playable on consoles again.
What’s your take on this? Would you be happy to see Verdansk return to consoles? Or would you also be interested in a mobile version of CoD Warzone?
After the criticism Warzone took this spring, there was finally some positive news: Finally players celebrate an update of CoD Warzone once again – You only had to change everything
