Call of Duty: Warzone takes its operators as a model, takes a good run-up and then jumps headfirst into the unknown. With Warzone 2, a completely new Battle Royale will be released in November 2022, which wants to do many things differently than its predecessor – even if the basic principle remains the same, of course.
In a stream, we have now finally learned many exciting details, such as a third-person mode, that DMZ will be part of Warzone and that Gulag battles will soon be completely different than usual. You can find all the info here in this article.
Everything we learned about Warzone 2
Release date is set
At November 16 2022 Warzone 2 is launching, so the leaks were right! This means that the Battle Royale will enter its first round a good two weeks later than Modern Warfare 2, which is already available from October 28.
Warzone 2 is available on PC not only via Battle.net, but also via Steam. As a reminder, this also applies to Modern Warfare 2, the first Call of Duty to return to the platform after a long Steam hiatus.
This remains the same
Warzone 2 is once again Free2Play for everyone, and nothing changes in the basic gameplay either. You end up with numerous other players in an arena that gets smaller and smaller over the course of a round. The battle royale is once again closely linked to the latest main game, in this case Modern Warfare 2, with which it also shares the engine.
Like Warzone, the sequel is protected by the anti-cheat program Ricochet, this time right from day one. This should prevent cheaters from entering the game as much as possible right from the start – they were a massive problem in Battle Royale for many – Season s.
This is new in Warzone 2
Now we come to the really exciting info of the evening! Everything is new in … November. You know. So what’s different in Warzone 2? Let’s go through the individual areas.
Your progress: You start from scratch in Warzone 2. You can’t take with you the stuff you bought and unlocked for Warzone 1, such as operators, weapon skins and perks. Of course, you can still use your hard-won equipment in Warzone, as the servers will continue to run (maybe even with new updates).
The Map: Instead of Verdansk or Caldera, a completely new map awaits you. Away with urban or tropical motifs, here with desert! The map Al Mazrah represents a fictional area in West Asia. As in the past, individual sections of the map will appear as multiplayer maps in Modern Warfare 2.
Water including vehicles, many different POIs like a railroad station, a sunken village or a large city center: Al-Masrah wants to offer a wide range of different locations as usual. Even for old fans, there should be a lot of familiar elements to explore. There are also lootable items hidden everywhere, even in fixed locations, which will give experienced players advantages over time.
Vehicles more important: In Warzone 2, cars and boats are used. Players can lean out the side, climb on the roof – and destroy the carts with all sorts of weapons and gadgets. And the helicopters are back, too. There’s even a big bird for a whole squad.
Strongholds: AI-populated fortresses that hide super loot. Here squads can move in, distribute proper bells and then continue the match with thickly packed bags.
The Gulag: This is where you’ll end up if you get shot down on the map, and get a second chance. Gone are the days of deadly 1vs1 duels. Instead, you now fight in pairs against two other players, with the winners returning to Al Mazrah. It’s hard to gauge how this new system will feel – it might be easier to get frustrated when your demise is no longer just in your own hands.
There’s more news in the Gulag: the “Jailer” is apparently an NPC who wants to cause you problems there. Details are not yet known. But we already know that there are weapons to be found in the Gulag – maybe you’ll take the found equipment back into the match?
AI opponents: It’s not just human enemies that want your armor plates, an AI faction is also taking aim at you in Al Mazrah. This could make for a significantly different gameplay experience!
DMZ Mode: The mode reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown is coming as part of Warzone 2, so it will be Free2Play as well. It is supposed to be a Sandbox experience
offer, in other words, a lot of freedom to play.
On Al-Masrah in DMZ mode, AI enemies are everywhere. We go in as a squad, collect loot, complete missions, hunt other players at will, and then have to leave the match at an extraction point.
Other innovations: There are said to be new social features that allow you to share your Warzone experience with others. This time, three games share the Battle Pass progress: Warzone 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2: Mobile, which will be released later.
Many gameplay innovations from Modern Warfare 2 should also play a role in Warzone, for example, that you can shoot tires of vehicles. Underwater battles with their own physics will play a major role in the main game and will also make their way into Battle Royale. We have summarized all the features of Modern Warfare 2 in our preview.
What do you think about the announced changes? Will you be switching straight away or would you rather stay loyal to Warzone? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
