General info – setting, platforms, developers

Call of Duty is a great shooter series and with CoD: Vanguard the 18th main part of the series is already released. CoD is defined by mobile PvP battles with fast movement, many different game modes and a focus on soldier vs. soldier combat.

In the normal modes you often have to kill enemies, capture areas or both. Vehicles often play no role at all, or only a minor one. On the other hand, you have a large selection of equipment and war tools that you unlock or earn in matches.

Long-term motivation is provided by the huge number of unlockable achievements and cosmetics, as well as your own ambition to become better. CoD in multiplayer is also a good way to switch off and forget everything else for a few matches.

Besides the great PvP multiplayer, Vanguard also offers a solo campaign and a co-op mode with zombies. If you’re still unsure about buying, you can find our quick check on Vanguard here:

CoD Vanguard launches this week: why should you play it? The short check

What is the setting of the CoD of 2021? Vanguard goes back to the beginning of the series and is set in World War II. The last CoD with this setting was CoD: WWII from 2017.

How was the setting received? Since the 2nd World War has been the setting of a CoD game several times, the reactions of the fans were mixed. A poll on MeinMMO revealed that many of you consider the setting to be the biggest obstacle to buying the game.

However, our MeinMMO writer and CoD expert Maik Schneider thinks that CoD fans shouldn’t discount the title just because of the setting. He thinks it could be a very strong year.

Which studio is developing the game? The three big Activision studios that traditionally develop CoD are Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games. The latter would have actually been the turn in 2020, but the current CoD Black Ops Cold War was then developed by Treyarch.

With Vanguard, Sledgehammer is back in charge, who also developed the last World War II CoD.

What else is there to know? In terms of technology, Vanguard is again based on Modern Warfare from 2019. The new CoD uses a polished engine from CoD MW and thus also the graphics engine from Warzone. Vanguard appears for PC in the Battle.net launcher and on the consoles PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

CoD Vanguard – info on preload, download, release schedule

When is the release of Vanguard? CoD: Vanguard will be released on Friday, November 05 on all platforms.

What time will Vanguard go online? For the consoles the start is regionally adjusted and for the PC it starts globally at the same time:

  • Start on PlayStation & Xbox: 05.11. at 00:00 clock
  • Launch on PC: 05.11. at 05:00 clock

Does Vanguard have a preload? Yes, pre-orderers can download Vanguard earlier and the preload is already online. More info about the download and the release schedule can be found here.

What does Vanguard offer at launch? For starters, the World War II shooter offers 16 maps for the normal game modes, almost 40 weapons and 8 modes that are permanently available. An overview of all maps, modes and weapons can be found here.

Call of Duty is more than just multiplayer, though. Vanguard comes with a campaign for solo players and a zombie mode for co-op action. The playtime of both modes can’t be estimated yet. But the campaign is often very action-packed and a strong addition, while the zombie mode shines with a high replay value.

What will happen with Vanguard after release? The CoD of 2021 will probably be provided with free content for 6 live – Season s again. That means: For one year you will get new maps, modes, weapons and zombie content every few weeks.

Even before the start of the first – Season on December 2nd, a new map will be added to the game. The chaos map “Shipment” provides many kills, deaths and experience points. More about the release schedule until – Season 1 here. The roadmap can be found here:

What does Warzone have to do with this? The free-to-play Battle Royale is switching to the Vanguard engine with the launch of – Season 1 and will be fully integrated with Vanguard. All the details are not yet known, but what we do know can be found in the Warzone section of the article.

CoD Vanguard with dramatic campaign in World War 2.

What will the game be about? With Vanguard, it’s back to World War 2. There was a cheeky teaser for this, in which a Soviet sniper in a World War II uniform shoots a soldier while extracting in Warzone.

There will be locations all over the world and at different times of the war. Already confirmed are the following locations:

  • Western Front – France
  • Eastern Front – Russia
  • Pacific Front
  • Africa Front
  • Germany and Alps

Later, there was another trailer that explained the individual war theaters in more detail. It was also made clear that it is NOT an alternative WW2 scenario á la Wolfenstein, but corresponds to the historical templates.

However, there are no soldiers in the game that completely correspond to their role models – which the New Zealanders definitely dislike.

What are we playing, anyway? A patch with the logo and lettering of “Task Force Vanguard” keeps appearing in the teasers. This is the very first special unit in which soldiers of allied nations carry out special commando enterprises.

At gamescom 2021, a longer gameplay passage from the campaign was shown. In it, Russian soldier and later sniper Polina Petrova (played by Laura Bailey) makes an appearance. You can find the video and the article about the new heroine of CoD Vanguard here:

The goal of the campaign is to stop the nasty Nazi officer Friesinger from realizing his plans for a “Fourth Reich”. To do this, we slip into the roles of the soldiers who are part of the Vanguard special unit.

CoD Vanguard: Strong release content in multiplayer

What multiplayer modes will be available? So far we know that there will be the usual 6v6 modes and a 2vs2/3vs3 Gunfight mode. The latter will be called “Champion Hill” and will feature 2vs2/3vs3 battles with a total of 8 teams competing against each other in a series. Like in a kind of tournament. In addition, there will be the new mode “Patrol” for the 6vs6 maps.

  • Free for All
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Launch confirmed
  • Dominion
  • Search & Destroy
  • Position
  • Patrol
  • Champions Hill

In addition, every week there are changing game modes with adapted rules for more variety.

In addition, game modes are planned that take the reactive environment into account. In Vanguard, you can do a lot of damage to the environment. A completely new mode is “Patrol” – here you have to collect points in an area, but it moves across the map all the time.

Destructible environment is now a thing.

How many maps are there? At launch, a whopping 20 maps will be playable in Vanguard. That’s a lot, because Cold war only had 12 maps for comparison! Counting only the 6vs6 maps, Vanguard has more than twice as many maps as its predecessor. 16 of them are 6vs6 core maps, the remaining 4 are planned for smaller modes.

What’s the deal with the combat pacing? This is one of the big new features in Vanguard. You can now set how many players you want on the map for most matches:

  • Tactical: All normal – 6vs6
  • Attack: Here it goes already more off
  • Blitz: Large amount of players, up to 24vs24 on large maps.

The 12 most important new features of CoD Vanguard – Which one is the highlight for you?

What about the weaponsmith? The Gunsmith feature from Modern Warfare will also return, with more scope. There will be custom ballistics and different ammo types and calibers for your weapons, among other things. Also, the weapons now have 10 attachment slots and each one can be equipped with an attachment.

A big overview of the multiplayer mode, with all the info on maps, modes, weapons and gameplay, can be found here:

Everything about the warzone with Vanguard

Will the new CoD come to the warzone in 2021? Warzone continues to be the link between the annual CoD titles. The integration of the new CoD even goes much further than Cold War. Because Warzone takes over the graphics engine from Vanguard – so it is technically brought up to date.

In addition, there is a new, large map and an anti-cheat system for the PC. The complete details are not yet known. Info about Warzone with Vanguard can be found here:

In terms of gameplay, many things are still unclear, but there are already some details about the merge. The Pacific update will start on December 2nd and the new map is called Caldera:

CoD Warzone: Pacific presents new map “Caldera” – release, aircraft & anti-cheat

And what about zombies in Vanguard?

Will there be zombies? Good news for fans of rotting undead. Because Vanguard will once again have a zombie co-op mode. It even comes from the zombie experts at Treyarch and tells the prequel to the zombies in Cold War.

The new zombie mode deviates from the usual turn-based concept. Rather, you build up your command center with missions, which is also a battlefield, and with each mission the difficulty increases, but so does your ability to upgrade equipment.

We’ve collected more info about the zombie mode for you here:

Did you know that ……. ???

Armies Call of Duty – SEAL Team

Careful Corporal, this paragraph or article is a stub, do your fellow Call of Duty wiki members a favor and complete this article as best you can before I have to collect their dog tags. The SEAL team is a unit from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. In the mission Hunter and Hunted, they help the Metal team take out the submarine and escape. The two members are randomly generated.

Heroes Call of Duty – Collins (Ghosts)

2nd Lieutenant Collins is a character from Call of Duty: Ghosts. Together with Sergeant Thompson and a few other soldiers, they took the Federation space station Loki and took control of the staffs that also destroyed San Diego at the beginning of the campaign, thus helping the 2nd Tank Battalion on the ground to dominate the battle and especially the war.

Weapons Call of Duty-Makarov

The Makarov is a pistol from Call of Duty: Black Ops, the DS version of Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The Makarov often appears in the campaign as a secondary weapon of the Spetsnaz and NVA, it is also used by the guards in Vorkuta and Viktor Reznov. Alex Mason uses it to fend off the attacking guards in Vorkuta while the trio ducks behind the coal truck, and it is also used to execute Steiner.

Games Call of Duty – Roads to Victory

Call of Duty: Roads to Victory is a 2007 World War II first-person shooter for the PlayStation Portable and a portable spin-off of Call of Duty 3 for consoles. It was released on March 13, 2007, developed by Amaze Entertainment and published by Activision Publishing It is the sixth portable installment of the franchise, first being on J2ME, the second on N-Gage, the third and fourth on J2ME, and the fifth on the Pocket PC.

Maps Call of Duty – Aftermath

Aftermath is a multiplayer map from Call of Duty: Black Ops II, set in a destroyed neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles after the Cordis Die mission. Aftermath is a medium sized map with narrow corridors, wide lines of sight and many buildings for the player to enter. This makes multiple combat styles effective and often results in particularly fierce battles at certain junctions.

Camouflage Call of Duty – Ice camouflage

Ice provides the equipped weapon with a white appearance and adds some blue spots meant to resemble snow. This camouflage is often seen on enemy weapons, especially the Famas in the Mass Destruction mission. You can use this camouflage well on snowy maps like Summit or Array. It’s also useful on Grid and WMD, but not quite as effective as there’s a lot of normal ground to be seen there as well.

Fraction Call of Duty FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI for short, is a new police faction in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. she battles the Mercenaries on Raid, Aftermath, Express, Grind, and Studio. They also appear in the mission Cordis Die, where they fight Raul Menendez’s many mercenaries on the streets of Los Angeles.
