Talking to GameStar, the developers announced back in August that there will be several so-called “Combat Pacings” in Call of Duty Vanguard. This setting allows for different player numbers on the 16 normal multiplayer maps – from “tactical 6v6 battles to large and chaotic mass battles, everything is possible,” explained multiplayer lead designer Greg Reisdorf.
The exact number of players would not tell us at that time. Now it is certain: Up to 48 players will be able to play regular multiplayer at the same time, according to the official roadmap with new info on the beta. That’s four times as many players as usual in CoD.

“In combat pacing with these high player numbers, the new destruction physics on the maps really come into their own, providing spectacle, chaos and also stark changes over the course of a round,” Reisdorf explains.
Combat Pacing Explained
The exact number of players depends on the size of each map and can therefore vary. In the menu you can simply select or deselect your desired Combat Pacings. The following settings have been announced:
- Tactical (12 players): The classic size for Call of Duty multiplayer lobbies in 6vs6 format, as veterans know it.
- Assault (20-28 players): A medium sized variant with more players at the same time in a 10vs10 to 14vs14 format. There should still be room to breathe.
- Blitz (up to 48 players): The largest lobby version in the format 14vs14 to 24vs24. Here comes hectic battles without rest.
It was also officially confirmed that all three settings will be available on all maps. At the same time it was also the new game mode Patrol was announced. Here, teams must capture and hold an objective point as it moves continuously across the map. In addition, the classics Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed will return.
Starting September 18, all PC players can try out the combat pacing and game modes for free in the beta. The final release is scheduled for November 5.
