CallofDuty: Warzone 2 announced!

Yes, you read that right, a WarZone2 is in the works. Microsoft has just bought out Activision Blizzard and the rumor mill is already boiling over. Not only are fans wondering if might only be released exclusively for #Xbox and PC in the future, but there are already rumors that the shooter series will no longer be released annually. Regarding the latter, we can already say that the cycle will probably remain at least for the next three titles. After all, we already have a lot of information about Modern Warfare II, which is supposed to be released this fall. In addition, another CoD from developer Treyarch is supposed to be released in 2023.

In addition to these two annual releases, there are now rumors that Warzone 2 will also be released in 2023, according to Bloomberg and well-known journalist Jason Schreier.

What is Warzone 2?

Call of Duty: Warzone is the current free-to-play battle royale spin-off of the Call of Duty franchise. WarZone2 is supposed to be a new and significantly improved version of the current Battle Royale. Currently, Warzone is based on the engine from Modern Warfare 2019, which was updated with the release of Vanguard. Nevertheless, it is slowly but surely becoming apparent that a lot of problems exist after the integration of three games that are all based on different engines – or at least different versions. Warzone is brimming with errors, bugs and glitches and is also anything but well optimized. We all know how much memory the game requires…

So Warzone 2 will come with fresh engine – the IW9 engine from Modern Warfare II – and most importantly optimized for exclusively the current generation of consoles. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will therefore be left out this time. Even though the general gameplay will probably not change much, the new engine, the better optimization and especially a reset of the weapons should be received positively by the players.

Who is developing Warzone 2?

Although nothing has been officially announced yet, it is likely that Raven Software will be leading the development of Warzone 2. The studio took over the development of Infinity Ward shortly after the release of the current Warzone and has been taking care of the Call of Duty Battle Royale ever since. With their experience over the past two years, they should be the best team for the development of Warzone 2.

When will Warzone 2 be released?

We don’t have any official information on this either, but Bloomberg writes that Warzone 2 should probably be released for Xbox, PlayStation and PC as early as 2023. If the year is correct, it would mean that Warzone 2 is already in development – at least we hope so.

Do you think a Warzone 2 is a good idea? What changes would you like to see? In our opinion, it would be a big step in the right direction to stop integrating every single Call of Duty into Battle Royale in the future. The constant integration of complete games is not only accompanied by numerous errors, but there are also simply far too many weapons that can hardly be balanced in a meaningful way.
