Developer Raven Software has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone will receive a new map.
The map was teased during the Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer stream and will take players to the Pacific Ocean. Like the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard, it will also be inspired by World War II.
Call of Duty’s official Twitter account has shared a sneak peek of the new “Pacific Warzone” map, and it certainly looks like a drastic departure from Verdansk, the game’s current map.
Creative Director Amos Hedge said, “We’re heading to the Pacific, where we’ll find an all-new game space with brand new sights. Players will traverse the island’s lush landscapes and make their way through a variety of extremely cool locations while fighting alongside friends and foes.
“Our goal was to create a fresh, new experience for Call of Duty players by breaking out of the war-torn world of Gdansk and creating an atmosphere that is alive and opens doors for how we can shape the narrative and events.
The new Warzone map will use the same technology and engine as Call of Duty: Vanguard (thanks, VGC (opens in new tab)), which means that the popular free-to-play multiplayer mode will look and feel a bit different than what players are used to.
“Our teams have been working hard on this and will continue to do so,” Hodge said. “We know how much this means to everyone. We’ll continue to offer an extensive calendar of free content post-launch, including new modes, playlists, limited-time and – Season al events, community celebrations and more.”
Off to the Zone
Publisher Activision has also confirmed that the new Warzone map will have no effect on player progress or equipment.
“Warzone will continue to support weapons and content purchased with a Battle Pass or via a Store Bundle of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War,” Activision said. “It’s all built on the same technology and engine as Call of Duty: Vanguard for seamless weapon integration and gameplay balance, all with fully optimized cross-play, cross-progression and cross-gen support.”
The Pacific map will be slightly larger than Verdansk, Warzone’s current map, and will include new vehicles to help players traverse the landscape more efficiently. The Warzone Pacific map will be released shortly after the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard, which is scheduled for November 5.
The release of the Pacific Warzone map will also coincide with a new anti-cheat system that will be welcomed by most players. The new system is currently being tested and will hopefully help protect legitimate players from those who rely on hacks, cheats and glitches to win.
