The “Call of Duty” series is one of the most successful shooter series in the world and thrills baller fans on almost all platforms. The games are usually released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. But the brand also attracts millions of fans away from the stationary boxes. In 2019, the smartphone spin-off “Call of Duty: Mobile” was launched and became one of the most popular mobile games in the world. However, the game did not come from the original developers. Instead, the TiMi Studio Group, which belongs to the Chinese conglomerate Tencent, took over production. Now Activision seems to be going on the smartphone offensive itself.
About the news service Twitter the company recently announced the implementation of the Battle Royale hit “Call of Duty: Warzone” for mobile platforms. However, Activision did not reveal any details, a possible launch date or supported platforms. In fact, the Twitter posts primarily served to find employees. The tweets contain links to job ads on the company’s official website. There, Activision offers a whole range of open positions for the implementation of the project. From programmer to producer to product manager, there are various positions to be filled.
Standalone game instead of port
The job ads themselves only allow vague conclusions about the game. It is clear that Activision is developing the title natively for mobile platforms. So it’s obviously not a simple port of the PC and console version. On top of that, the publisher states that the title should inspire players for years. Accordingly, new content should appear regularly, as is the case with the original. It remains unclear whether the games are identical in content or Activision delivers a separate and independent version of the game from the other platforms.
The question of how the title differs from “Call of Duty: Mobile” and whether the two games will exist in parallel in the future remains exciting. Since both games are battle royale shooters on a free-to-play basis, they could outcompete each other. So it’s quite possible that “Warzone” will replace the current mobile version in the long run. A sequel is currently in the works for the PC and console versions of Call of Duty: Warzone. It is not known whether there is a connection between this game and the smartphone version.
