You’re wondering whether CoD: Vanguard has split-screen? We will explain the Call of Duty Vanguard split-screen mode for you. We’ve got good news and bad news.
Call of Duty: Vanguard was well received by the community. We were very happy with it too: The map design, in particular, was perhaps the best in recent memory. Sure, the Zombies mode was poorbut this was an exception. Since Call of Duty has always had a split-screen mode in the past and some gamers probably expect that from a CoD, we’ll take a closer look at it today. But it’s not quite that simple these days. In this article, we’re going to go through the split-screen options in Vanguard and show you how to set it up.
Does Call of Duty: Vanguard Have Split-Screen?
Vanguard Campaign Split-Screen
This game borrows so much from 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, the game that first introduced a split-screen playable campaign, so it’s quite unfortunate that Call of Duty: Vanguard’s campaign is exclusively single player. You can’t play the campaign split-screen, you can’t even play it with a friend online, it’s an experience built for one.
Vanguard Multiplayer Split-Screen
For multiplayer, it’s a different story: you can play Call of Duty: Vanguard split-screen multiplayer both online and locally. But if you do want to play online then you will need two online accounts (Xbox Live, PS+) signed in – you can’t just use one online account and a guest. The split-screen is restricted to team games though, you cannot play free-for-all modes. For obvious reasons.
Vanguard Zombies Split-Screen
The Zombie mode – the one that fans would most want to be able to play on their couch with a friend in split-screen – is another letdown in this department. You cannot play Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Zombies mode split-screen. And there’s no workaround here, believe me, we’ve tried. Yep, the Zombies is online co-op or solo only. Although we don’t think you’re missing out on too much…
How To Set Up Split-Screen In CoD: Vanguard?
To play split-screen multiplayer in Call of Duty: Vanguard, you need to do the following:
Local Multiplayer
- Sign in to Call of Duty: Vanguard on any account, online-enabled or otherwise
- Go into the “Multiplayer” menu and press either Y or △ on Xbox or PlayStation respectively to create a local game
- Sign in to a separate account on a separate controller, online-enabled or otherwise, and press A or X to join the game
- The player who sets the game up should be able to fill the game with bots and choose any map or mode they desire. Both players have access to all weapons and attachments in a local game and can use whatever they want.
Online Multiplayer
- Sign in to Call of Duty: Vanguard with an online-enabled account
- Sign in on a separate online account on another controller. Both accounts need to have PS+ or Xbox Live Gold.
- From the “Multiplayer” menu, the second account must press A or X to join the lobby
- The player who sets the lobby up can now choose to matchmaker
We’ve found that the older-gen consoles struggle with split-screen, but can still just about perform at a level you would describe as playable. The present-gen consoles have no issue running Call of Duty: Vanguard’s multiplayer in split-screen mode. Enjoy!
