Can you play Call of Duty: Vanguard in splitscreen? Yes and no. Is there a co-op campaign? And what about crossplay this year? We’ll provide you with answers to all the burning questions you have on these topics.

- 1 Call of Duty: Vanguard | Splitscreen, Co-op or Crossplay – it’s possible!
These modes offer a splitscreen in Call of Duty: Vanguard
If you like playing split-screen with friends, there’s good news and bad news. On the consoles, i.e. PS5, PS4, XBox One or Xbox Series X, you can play multiplayer in splitscreen without any problems. If you are a PC player, this function is unfortunately not available. There are no splitscreen modes on the computer.
But what exactly can you play in split screen? Here, too, there is little good news, because neither the zombie mode, nor the campaign offer splitscreen – so there is no co-op campaign this year either. It’s quite possible that at least the zombie mode will be equipped with a split screen for two players via an update, but that’s just a guess on my part.
We also show you how to add and invite friends.
Add a second player
If you want to add a second player, you can only do so in the main menu of the multiplayer. Once you are here, follow these steps:
- Turn on a second controller and log in with an account. If you want to play online in split-screen, the account must have an active subscription to PS Plus or Xbox Live. If you register the second controller as a guest, you will only be able to play locally as a pair against bots.
- If the second controller is turned on and logged in, a notice appears in the upper right corner that player 2 can join the splitscreen. Press the X button on PlayStation and the A button on Xbox to add a player.
- Once everything has worked, a second operator will appear in the screen and you can start any match. The screen is then split in two in split screen.
Did you know? You can also connect a mouse and keyboard to the consoles instead of a second controller.
Find, add or invite friends
If you want to find friends, add them or invite them to your lobby, you will always need your Activision ID – or that of a friend. This is partly due to cross-play, which we will discuss later. The first thing you should do is call up your Activision ID and make a note of it – this is also useful if you want to change your name:
- Go to the settings of Call of Duty: Vanguard, by clicking on the button with the gear. On consoles, you can alternatively press the Options button (PlayStation) or Menu button (Xbox).
- Switch to the tab “Account & Network” and click here afterwards on “Activision Account.”
- You will now see your Activision ID, which friends can use to add you.
Here you have to enter the Activision ID of a friend. He/she will receive the invitation immediately.
Returns to the main menu of the multiplayer and clicks on the “Social” button in the upper right corner – on the PlayStation you can alternatively press triangle, on the Xbox the Y-key. Automatically you will land in the tab “Friends (if you are not in a clan), where you can directly add an Activision friend. Add the Activision ID in the field and submit the invitation. Alternatively, you can use the drop-down menu to search for PlayStation or Xbox IDs.
How crossplay works in CoD: Vanguard
Yes, there is crossplay between PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. So you can easily play with friends who play on a different platform. Crossplay is enabled by default, by the way. Don’t be surprised if you, as a PC player, automatically end up in a lobby with console owners. If you want to deactivate crossplay, proceed as follows:
- Open the settings and switch to the tab “Account & Network”.
- At the top you can now Switch crossplay on or off.
Are there any drawbacks to enabling crossplay? Unfortunately, yes. Since you will only be connected to players on your own platform, matchmaking may take a little longer.
