Call of Duty: Several remasters in planning

All “” fans are currently eagerly waiting for more info on Modern Warfare II, which will be released later this year in the fall. At least we get some leaks about new weapons, maps or gameplay features every now and then, but we don’t have an official announcement yet. Now leaks about Call of Duty have appeared on the net again. Unfortunately, this time it’s not about Modern Warfare II… The latest leaks from Ralph who has also leaked some stuff about MWII, are now talking about several remasters being planned for older parts of the franchise. Apparently, in the next few years we can expect to see some absolute Call of Duty classics re-released as remastered games.

More Call of Duty Remaster

According to the well-known Call of Duty leaker Ralph, Activision is planning to remaster more CoDs over the next few years. We’ve already gotten remasters for or Modern Warfare 2 in the past, and we can probably expect something similar for more titles now. According to Ralph, Activision wants to fill the gap between the releases of new Call of Duty titles. But you could also simply say: Activision wants to sell old games a second time between new releases…

Besides announcing that new remasters are planned, however, the leak also immediately lists some games that are probably already on the remaster list. Apparently we can expect a remaster for the extremely popular World at War from 2008, but also Call of Duty 1 from 2004 and Call of Duty 2 from 2005. All absolute classics that many of today’s CoD fans have probably never played before. In addition, the already available Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered will be backwards compatible and even come to the Switch.

Is the leak plausible?

We certainly believe that there is something to the leak. After all, we’ve already gotten remasters for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 in recent years. For Modern Warfare 2, only the campaign was remastered, but still… Accordingly, yes, Activision has already released various Call of Duty titles as remasters, so why shouldn’t more follow. The question is whether it makes sense to release another remaster every year in addition to the current Call of Duty. However, the annual releases could soon be history with the takeover of Activision by Microsoft.

What strikes us as a bit odd, though, is the statement that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfe is coming to the Switch. Microsoft has mentioned that they want to bring more games to the Switch in the future as well, but Call of Duty? So far, Call of Duty hasn’t been available on any Nintendo console, and we highly doubt that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the right choice to start with.
