Call of Duty Players’ 10-Year Perk Frustration

It’s not confirmed yet, but many gamers are expecting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to be released this year. The leak factory is also already running at full speed. One leaker claims the Last Stand perk could return as a field upgrade, making it one of the most unpopular mechanics in the series.

What’s it about?

  • It’s not official yet, but as things stand, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is probably coming as CoD 2022.
  • The info from supposed insiders is already circulating the Internet, with possible details of the new shooter.
  • Included are leaks about possible perks and field upgrades. “Last Stand” is mentioned here and parts of the community immediately go on the barricades.

“Hell no!”

What is “Last Stand?” The mechanic lets you live on after fatal hits and gives you a chance to be revived by a teammate.

The mechanic used to be found more often in Call of Duty. Sometimes you’d still have a gun in your hand, sometimes you’d have no way to fight back on the ground. Sometimes you could still crawl, sometimes you could only be revived on the spot.

So to get the kill, you still had to fire one or, in some CoDs, several shots at the enemy on the ground.

This is similar to Battle Royale Warzone. Here, each player has “Last Stand” if a team member is still alive or has a self-revive in inventory waiting to be used.

What has been revealed now? Twitter leaker “@TheGhostOfHope” reports that “Last Stand” is present in a possible Modern Warfare 2:

The former perk is in the game as a field upgrade. Already the leaker writes about it “I hope Infinity Ward removes it due to criticism before launch”.

What are “field upgrades” in CoD? These are active abilities with a cooldown that you can often activate multiple times in a match. They are somewhat in contrast to “Perks”, which give you passive bonuses and are active at all times.

What do players say about this? American news site “CharlieIntel” asked on Twitter if gamers wished “Last Stand” back. And the reactions are pretty clear: no.

The reactions didn’t come as too much of a surprise. Already almost 11 years ago, at the launch of Modern Warfare 3 (CoD from 2011), developers received loud applause when announcing that “Last Stand” would not be in the game, as the following tweet shows:
