The original “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” from 2009 holds a special place in the hearts of many fans of the first-person shooter series – that’s one of the reasons why the excitement ahead of the reboot’s release in October 2022 is so huge. Of course, old-school gamers expect many features from the original to be included in the remake as well – these include the rewards for series of kills, for example.
AC-130 confirmed for the campaign
A favorite killstreak of many veterans is currently featured in a short commercial running on sites like Facebook and Instagram – the AC-130. In the montage of game scenes taken from the campaign, the plane can be seen destroying a building at the end. This heavily armed plane first appeared in “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” in the single-player mode and made its debut as a killstreak in “Modern Warfare 2” (2009).
Back then, players had to achieve eleven kills in a row to be allowed to take a seat in an AC-130 above the battlefield. From there, it was easy to target opponents – and receive the reward for a 25-kill series: a tactical nuclear weapon. Whoever summoned it automatically ended the game with a victory in favor of his team.
Since its appearance in “Modern Warfare 2” (2009), the gunship, as the AC-130 is also called, has been present in several titles. In “Modern Warfare” (2019), the last time it took a dozen eliminations in a row to summon the AC-130.
Since it’s back in the air in the campaign of “Modern Warfare 2” (2022), chances are pretty good that it will also be available in multiplayer as a reward for series of kills. The exact launch of the beta in mid-September 2022 will probably show.
