The first-person shooter brand “Call of Duty” has been a permanent guest in the annual release calendar for almost two decades. Accordingly, it should come as no surprise that a new spin-off will be released this year as well. Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher Activision Blizzard won’t change that.

In recent months, it has already echoed several times from the rumor mill that players will receive a successor to the 2019 “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”, which will once again be created by Infinity Ward. Now, after a long period of radio silence, the same developers have reported back with a short tweet and directly put the fans of the series in anticipation. However, there was not much to read.

“A new generation of Call of Duty is coming soon,” it says on the part of Infinity Ward, before they once again dived with Captain Price’s iconic saying “Stay frosty”. Accordingly, the unveiling of the new part could come sooner than previously suspected. In fact, it was assumed that we won’t get to see and hear anything about the new spin-off until summer at the earliest. However, it is not yet known whether Infinity Ward will actually provide a preview in the coming weeks and months.

After rather mixed successes of “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare”, the studio returned to their most successful series in 2019 and once again turned the market inside out. Not only did they introduce gameplay innovations that significantly changed the flow of multiplayer, but they also gave the brand a mega-success in the highly competitive Battle Royale market with “Call of Duty: Warzone.” Nowadays, another studio, Raven Software, is responsible for the spin-off.

Xbox head Phil Spencer had recently already emphasized that the “Call of Duty” brand will continue to appear for the PlayStation consoles, at least in the coming years. This has at least calmed the worries of many fans who had already feared an Xbox exclusivity.
