Got a hankering for Infinity Ward’s shooter Call of Duty 2 again, but can’t look at the pixelated World War II today?
No problem, because there’s now Call of Duty 2 Remastered. No, this isn’t a surprise re-release of the game, but a mod that neatly spruces up the game.
Sharp shooting with new textures
Modder Kuzja80 has been working on textures, among other things, for his project. He has “reworked all the pixels in the game” and delivers his mod with about 5,000 new textures for all surfaces and objects.
In addition, you can expect some engine and sound engine fixes and EAX has been restored for any hardware.
The launcher of the mod you should use
The mod weighs in at 6 GB and you can download it from Nexusmods. But use the mod’s own launcher so that the game doesn’t crash with an “out of memory” error.
Among the known problems of the mod is that you should restart the game for “some technical reason” when you adjust the resolution in the game settings.
In addition, there may be longer wait times when starting multiplayer mode (just be patient) and some of the textures for the sky are still in the original variant – also for technical reasons.
Would the mod be a reason for you to dig out Call of Duty 2 again? Or do you prefer to leave it alone nowadays, despite the sharper look?
The newest part of the Call of Duty series, Vanguard, will soon be released. In our technology article, you can read how the beta of the World War II shooter copes with the leap from the old to the new consoles.
According to an insider, a sequel to the Modern Warfare series is also in the works. Allegedly, this will be released in 2022, but details are not yet available.
