Breachers is a promising VR shooter in the works: behind the homage to Rainbow Six Siege is a tech-savvy studio.
For competitive shooter fans with VR goggles, the principle of Breachers alone sounds appealing: the VR game is strongly oriented towards tactical action like in Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege. The concept of small, winding battlefields sounds interesting, especially for VR, since players can lean out of numerous covers with their own bodies.
Behind the title are Triangle Factory, the makers of the small but very cleanly implemented Hyper Dash. This VR shooter used a creative VR locomotion on rails. This allowed gamers to quickly and effectively slide through arenas, bringing with it a gameplay experience all its own.
Breachers: Rainbow Six Siege in VR
The new multiplayer title for numerous VR platforms becomes much more realistic. A five-man special forces unit storms a twisted laboratory complex. Meanwhile, the equally large defending team prepares for the attack with technical gadgets, mines and motion detectors.
Presumably, a (more or less) dynamic destruction system plays an important role here as well. In Rainbow Six Siege the special forces blow up breakthroughs in the walls or barricade them with additional cover plates. In Breachers, too, walls are scaled with the help of rope harpoons and reinforced windows are blown out.
In the in-game store before a round, there are assault rifles, shotguns, submachine guns, and smaller secondary weapons to choose from. Also included are gadgets like grenades, drones, electrocution traps, as well as active camouflage to become almost invisible. The credits visible in the store indicate that all of this can be purchased with freshly earned in-game currency.
Is Breachers also coming for PSVR 2?
Breachers is in the works for Meta Quest 2, Steam, Vive and Pico systems (such as Pico Neo 3 Link). The price for the game is not yet known. Game launch is planned towards the end of 2022. The studio mentions that “all major VR platforms” will be supported – so a later implementation for Playstation VR 2 is likely.
