For most players, boost groups in WoW are not a bad thing per se. The intrusive advertising of these groups is what annoys the hell out of most heroes in Azeroth. And since Blizzard still doesn’t ban boost groups completely, it now spends them their own “trade” channel.
For many players, the countless boost groups in WoW are a thorn in the side. But not necessarily because of the services they offer. It’s much more the advertising of those groups that is considered annoying. For years, the boosting community flooded all the chats in the capitals with one advertisement after another. Every second, the “WTS Kill XY – all Loot just for you!” offers rattled through the 2-way chat. And the official group search tool was also stuffed to the top with such offers. Both have since been banned, which has certainly alleviated the problem. Still, you see countless spams in the chat and the tool day in and day out.
But this could soon be over. Because instead of containing the plague with all severity, the developers now create a protected area in which it can unfold.
New Channel for Boost Groups
With the soon to be released WoW (buy now ) Patch 9.2.7, the official chat is to be expanded by another channel. This new “trade” channel is aimed specifically at requests or offers from the boosting community – whether raids, dungeons or PvP. The developers hope that this will keep the actual trade channel free of such spam in the future. Like the other channels, the boost channel will be optional. You can mute it at any time or leave it if you are not interested in it.
Blizzard
USER INTERFACE AND ACCESSIBILITY
A new chat channel for searching or advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities has been added: Trade (Services).
- Developers’ note: The trade channel that’s been in the game for 18 years will continue to exist, but we wanted to add a new channel to direct messages about the request and advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities. If you’re looking to buy or sell these kind of services, this is the channel for you! If you’re not interested in those, you can leave the channel and avoid the noise, or move it into its own chat tab. We believe that with this new distinction, you’ll be able to keep trade chat for the traditional buying and selling of items and professions, and not other chatter.
Do you think this will solve the problem of boosting spam? Or would you have preferred Blizzard to ban not only the commercial organizations, but any kind of boosting? Or does neither boosting nor advertising for it bother you in the slightest?
