A pleasant evening to all Overwatch fans. While you’re sitting at home in your armchairs or in front of the computer, we’ll watch the livestream together in the editorial office and provide you live with the latest information about Blizzard’s new IP. The actual panel on Overwatch doesn’t start until 1:45 a.m. our time, but maybe you’ll be able to catch a few things in the opening ceremony or the other panels.
To stay up to date, it’s a good idea to reload the page every now and then by pressing F5. In this sense: Have fun!
03:00: Tomorrow there will be another panel on World of Overwatch, but it will probably be more about the story. But even that is not uninteresting. We point you again to the short presentation of the new Overwatch heroes there. Other than that, we’ll say goodbye for today. We hope you all get access to the beta soon, because if we’re honest here in the editorial department: Overwatch rocks so much that we’ll probably play a few more rounds before we call it a night. With that in mind, good night to you all!
02:55] Well there’s a few things that came up. Even if the important questions remained unanswered. Launch is sometime in spring. No new game modes announced. We’ll have to be patient a bit longer. But at least three new heroes will be in the game next week, plus the Hollywood map.
02:52: E-sports? Should probably remain separate on the platforms, but there are no concrete plans yet. – And that ends the Q&A session and also the official Overwatch panel.
02:50: Different versions of the heroes? A female Genjin? Blizzard hasn’t thought about that yet, but different skins already exist and there should be many more. It looks a bit like an in-game store. When will the new heroes come? The new heroes should be in the game as early as next week! And a split screen for the console version is also a good idea, according to Kaplan.
02:47: Currently Blizzard is happy with the 21 heroes that are currently in the game. They don’t want too many different ones so that each hero plays uniquely and balancing doesn’t go to the dogs.
02:45: Modding in Overwatch? Interesting. The developers are still talking around it. They believe in modding, but are concentrating on the launch for now. Only then will they think about whether and how to make the game accessible to modders.
02:40: What comes first in character development? The gameplay or the story? Apparently, though, it varies. Sometimes this way, sometimes that way. Are there things that were tested but didn’t make it into the game? Apparently there are more than enough of them. Bastion alone probably had more than five different Ultis, all of which were discarded.
02:37: Q&A! Mac version? Not for now. Too much development effort currently. Different game modes? Limited hero changes? Blizzard is looking into it and has already tested things like “Capture the Flag”, but found it not good enough. At least until now. The developers are also considering making keyboard assignments per hero instead of one for all. So that you can customize your heroes even better. Great idea – that’s what our boss, the old shooter pro, thinks.
02:35: The new heroes will definitely bring a breath of fresh air to the beta. But when will they come? Kaplan and his colleagues are keeping quiet about that.
02:30: Genji’s abilities revolve around his katana and shuriaken. He can throw ninja stars and slice through enemies with his sword. In case you forgot: Here you can see the skills in the video. SO as they are also just shown again in the panel. Looks simply strong!
02:25: Obviously Hazo and Genji originated from the same character. But the developers really wanted to have katana AND bow in the game. So without further ado they became two ninjas!
02:21: We continue with Genji, Hanzo’s younger brother. He’s supposed to be something of the black sheep of the family. Hanzo apparently almost killed him in a duel, but Mercy saved him and gave him a mechanical body. Sounds pretty awesome.
02:18: D’va is the first hero to possess two Ultis. She uses one to blow up her mech, and the second to summon a new mech. It’s supposed to play very differently depending on whether she’s in or out of her mech. Looks heavy in the video like she’s a tank inside her mech and more of an offensive hero without.
02:17: The evolution from the monster mech to the rather narrow final form is interesting
02:16] Now it’s all about D’va, the pretty Starcraft progamer, who goes into the field together with her battle robot.
02:15: Kaplan just shows all his skills again, you already know them from our Hero Preview.
02:14] A pet named Snowball – anyone who knows “Clerks, the shopkeepers” knows why our editorial staff just burst out laughing.
02:13: By the way, you can find more about the new heroes in our News about it.
02:12: Now let’s get to the new heroes! Mei, the Chinese explorer worked for Overwatch. Trapped in the Arctic, she put herself and her crew in stasis until help arrived. But that didn’t come until years later. Overwatch had already disbanded by then. Logically, her attacks are therefore also based on ice. Frost rays and ice barriers.
02:10: The new map “Hollywood” – including Goldshire Studio. Small Easteregg for Warcraft fans. It is supposed to have many different paths and walkable roofs. Sounds like varied battles. Aliens are also on board, of course. The map is bursting with allusions to actors or other Hollywood celebrities.
02:05: Blizzard has planned from the beginning to release Overwatch on consoles as well. Could have been expected. Console players do NOT play against PC players. Also the consoles remain in each case among themselves.
02:00: We get a bit of a rundown on the beta, with 82,000 matches played and averaging 7:34 minutes in length. The most played hero is – drum roll – Pharah. Symmetra has the highest chance of victory of all the heroes.
01:55: Let’s go. Jeff Kaplan on stage with the designer of the heroes and the Gema designer of Overwatch.
01:50: Shouldn’t it be about time the panel started? In case you’re interested: Reddit user EricRuthGames shows us what Overwatch would have looked like 25 years ago. Not bad.
01:40: Wil Wheaton, getting quite old the good Wesley Crusher. But we want to see Overwatch!
01:30: Fifteen minutes to go, then the Overwatch panel starts. Eeeeeefinally. We’re still waiting for new information about upcoming game modes or a ranking system or unlockable gimmicks.
00:00: Yawning boredom with Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. Still soooo long until there is new information,
21:20: This concludes the opening ceremony. We’ll keep watching Blizzcon and write to you if there’s anything new about Overwatch. There should be plenty of news by tonight’s Overwatch panel at the latest. We’re still excited about the new Genji.
1:10 PM: Cinematic time! Varian looks pretty old! Green fire? Not again! Sylvanas and Wrynn working together. The trailer looks like it was directed by Michael Bay! The Alliance apparently gets the king they’ve always wanted. The gladiator Varian Wrynn. He would certainly look good in the Overwatch universe.
21:05: Gone is the Overwatch glory. Now it’s on to WoW. For more info, we’ll probably have to wait until tonight. If anything else comes, you can read it here, of course! Promise!
21:00: So there are 3 versions of the retail version – Normal, Origin and Collectors. The latter with bronze figure of Soldier76. In addition, Overwatch is now finally announced for consoles. For X-Box One and PS4
20:59: There will be an Origin Edition – there are a lot of goodies in it. Skins for Soldier 76 as Strike Kommander Morrison – Skin for Overgrown Bastion and Reaper as as Blackwatch Ryes – Security Chief Phara – Slipstream Tracer! – Goodies for other games. Tracer in Heroes of the Storm. Baby Winston as Pet in WoW. Noir Widowmaker as skin for pre-orderers!
20:58] Okay, so we get all the heroes when we buy Overwatch.
20:56: Genji, the unknown ninja is finally here too, as we had already suspected. As the first melee fighter in Overwatch! – I just got a little bit buck!
20:55: D’va and her robot – like horny!!!!!! Mei is also there with her ice blaster! – Plus a new card, which looks like a film studio.
8:53 PM: Video Time!
8:52 PM: New heroes? Yaaaaa, 3 new heroes coming and a new map. Let’s see!
20:51: Who doesn’t have internet? What kind of question is that? Overwatch is getting an offline mode? Apparently not after all – a pity really.
20:50: Yeah!!!! Overwatch! Jeff Kaplan on stage!
8:45 PM: The League of Explores is coming next Thursday. New maps – new game mechanics. Loooooooong time! We want to see Overwatch!
20:40] Hearthstone: The League of Explorers! – Looks pretty nice already. Blizzard once again doesn’t take itself too seriously and sends Brann Bronzebeard into the race. Not only we, but also the Paladin in the video think this is pretty nice.
20:32: Warcraft trailer over – and all so mehhh. Looked more or less like a cinematic with normal people in it all of a sudden. The majority of our editorial team is richly unimpressed.
20:30: The Warcraft Trailer! And all so Yeah!
20:00: Here we go, lots of blah blah blah about Blizzard.
7:30 PM: Half an hour to go until the opening ceremony. We are hot for news about Overwatch. New heroes, new maps or finally something about the upcoming game modes? And of course we’re also looking forward to the Warcraft trailer and info about Legion.
