Blizzard officials already have to deal with what will happen on the retro servers after WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. A Cataclysm Classic survey that recently landed with players could pave the way for this phase.
In April 2022, we reported that Blizzard executives were thinking about how to proceed after WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas even threw the question into the room in a conversation with Asmongold, what changes would have to be made to make players want to play Cataclysm Classic …
But how to find out what the community wants? Well, in the past, the Blizzard executives have used the tool of the survey extensively, to collect feedback on the remakes of vanilla WoW, TBC and WotLK. And lo and behold, apparently some players have now also received an official Blizzard survey on Cataclysm Classic (via Wowhead).

Here are Blizzard’s main questions from the survey:
- When WotLK Classic is released, what project should the WoW Classic team tackle next?
- Which of the core features of Cataclysm Classic did you like and how much, or which features would you be interested in seeing in a Classic implementation of Cataclysm?
- Which features of Cataclysm did you like best and which did you not like at all?
- What feature would you most look forward to in Cataclysm Classic and why?
- What feature would make you not look forward to Cataclysm Classic at all, and why?
- When you think about your experience with WoW (buy now ) and other MMOs, what quality-of-life feature should the upcoming Classic expansion absolutely have?
In the final part of the survey, respondents had to choose a color. Depending on the color (there were eight options), each presented a specific concept for the implementation of Cataclysm Classic. Here are two examples:
- What would you think about Blizzard bringing Cataclysm Classic without any changes?
- What would you think if Blizzard brings Cataclysm Classic with some targeted changes (for example, without LFR tool and with some WotLK features simplified in the original Cataclysm; features like leveling phase to 85 and new races Worgen and Goblins would be there)?
Based on the various concepts, respondents were then asked to rate each item in detail, but also the concept in general. Example: How would you like Cataclysm Classic to do away with the LFR tool? What word would you use to describe the concept? Would you be more or less interested in trying Cataclysm Classic now?
Last but not least was the expectation of the respondents: should Cataclysm Classic come with no changes or with various changes? Or should the Classic team be more concerned with a championship – Season for Classic, TBC, or WotLK? What would your answers to these questions be?
