Blizzard removes Z symbol from Overwatch skin

Blizzard’s Online Shooter launched this week with its Anniversary Remix event. In-game rewards await players again, this time including a number of old skins that were available for a limited time in previous events, giving many a second chance to get them. With the event also received old Zarya skins revisions, which turned out to be quite subtle, but were nevertheless spotted by eagle-eyed fans. Blizzard removed the “Z” symbol on two of their skins and this has an important reason.

Blizzard takes out the “Z” in Zarya skins

The letter “Z” on Zarya’s “Arctic” and “Siberian Front” skins will clearly be a monogram of her name for many Overwatch players. Zarya, whose full name is Aleksandra Zaryanova, was a Russian soldier in the game’s storyline before joining Overwatch. She is a nice character who wants to protect other people.

But in a time when real Russian troops use the letter “Z” to symbolize their invasion and war in Ukraine, the same has no place on the outfit of a Russian female soldier in an online shooter. In addition, parts of the Russian population have also taken the letter as a symbol for their support of the war taken over.

Blizzard has not yet commented on the removal of the letter. However, it seems almost impossible that the change could have been made for another reason. Below you can see the before and after comparison of Zarya’s skin on Reddit:
