In WoW Classic, there was a huge wave of bans. However, this has probably mainly caught innocent people, who are now complaining loudly.
In World of Warcraft Classic, the pre-patch for Wrath of the Lich King Classic has been live for a few days. Many players are taking advantage of this to quickly bring a character up to level 70 so that they can finally return to Northrend in a few days to relive their old adventures. But for some heroes the journey was already over after the first PvP matches – because they were banned for inactivity. The outcry was great, so that Blizzard now had to row back.
What were the people banned for? Over the past few days, there has been a collective outcry on the WoW Classic forums and subreddit. Hundreds reported being banned from WotLK Classic for a hefty 30 days. The reason given is almost always “PvP non-participation.” This is when a character signs up for PvP but doesn’t participate in battle, so to speak, and just stands around afk somewhere to collect honor and experience points without participating in the game.
A message that a lot of people have seen in the last few days.
What do those affected say? Those affected say that they mainly played normally in Alterac Valley to gain experience via PvP battlegrounds and level up their characters that way. Many report that they acted more defensively, protecting towers from capture, for example. This, in turn, seems to lead the system to classify these characters as afk. You don’t do much damage or healing if you’re stoically defending a bunker for the whole battle and a rogue or druid doesn’t dare attack you just because you’re there.
Many are outraged by this decision and believe that Blizzard’s automatic detection simply failed here. The disappointment is great, because you would miss the launch of WotLK Classic.
Here’s how Blizzard responds In the meantime it is clear that the many affected people have obviously told the truth and many of them were wrongly banned. More and more report that the developers have now sent an apology and affected accounts have been reactivated. So only a few will have to serve the full 30 days.
