Blizzard accidentally reveals release date

Apparently, the Blizzard executives revealed the release date of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic too early last night. The corresponding information has since been removed from the WoW website.

Currently, large parts of the Classic community are waiting for Blizzard to finally officially reveal the concrete schedule until the launch of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. After all, it’s not just the Northrend trip that’s on the agenda, but also the pre-launch phase, the deployment of the death knights, the activation of the level 1 servers, and the experience point buff promised by the developers.

Leak instead of official announcement

But although the WotLK Classic beta is making good progress and since a short time the first raid instances are testable, Blizzard is still silent. Good that you can rely on another weakness of the developers: If they don’t want to reveal anything for a long time, there will be someone who “accidentally” lets information leak out.

WoW: Hotfixes from July 29, 2022 – Sand polished relics account weit

New WoW hotfixes have arrived on the live servers on July 29, 2022, bringing an important change to Sand Polished Relics.

Such a leak also occurred last night. Several sources report (verified by the Internet Archive, which forgets nothing) that the official website of World of Warcraft briefly showed the release date of WotLK Classic. Apparently, the new edition of the Northrend adventure is supposed to be released on September 26, 2022. A short time later, the date was removed again by Blizzard.

What does this mean for the overall schedule?

A little over a week ago, we speculated, how the schedule until the launch of WotLK Classic could look like. At the time, we had assumed a release on September 14, 2022. If we take the new date and all known information so far, we now arrive at the following possible schedule:

  • Experience points buff coming in the first or second week of August.
  • Current arena – Season ends no later than August 10, 2022
  • Server merge is on August 10, 2022
  • The beta ends on August 29, 2022, the pre-patch starts and the restart servers go live
  • WotLK Classic will be released on September 26, 2022

Even with this schedule, we would have a pre-patch period of four weeks, the XP buff would be active for a total of seven to eight weeks, and the information from the supposed leak would be true. Fingers crossed that Blizzard reveals the actual dates in a timely manner. After all, the only officially confirmed date to date (server cancellations/merges on August 10) is getting closer and closer.
