The beta of Overwatch 2 is in the starting blocks – at least that’s what several leaks and hints pointing to this month say.
Hardly any community in the Blizzard cosmos is as disappointed as that of Overwatch. That’s because Blizzard announced Overwatch 2, which failed to convince after its unveiling – at the same time, Overwatch 1’s development was drastically throttled. There is a content drought and apart from a few new skins in events, there has hardly been any real new content for years.
Now the franchise is finally gaining momentum again – because the beta of Overwatch 2 could be just around the corner.
What happened? A few days ago, there were some updates to the Battle.net servers. Included in them were new data that quite obviously allude to an alpha or beta test of Overwatch 2. The updates affect the entries “Overwatch 2.0” and “Demo 2” – Twitter user Naeri captured a screenshot of the changed version.
This also coincides with other leaks. Because from several sources it is reported that there was a meeting of the developers with some content creators a few days ago. A demo of Overwatch 2 was probably shown there.
Such preliminary meetings with content creators are common at Blizzard, which was also the case with Hearthstone.
The leak also said that there would be “more information on Overwatch 2 in the 3rd week of February” – so that’s in a few days.
What does this mean? Since the info and leaks all fit together very well, the probability is quite high that there is something to it. This would mean that the Overwatch beta will start around February and that we will finally get a first, more comprehensive look at the game.
As soon as there is concrete information from Blizzard about an exact date, we will of course report on it.
What is Overwatch 2 actually? That’s another one of those little question marks. Basically, Overwatch 2 is a further development of Overwatch 1 – but you should also be able to continue playing together with Overwatch 1 players. New, however, are story missions for several players, in which you can play the well-known heroes and play through a campaign. You can even distribute skill points to the heroes and expand their abilities.
However, many players are still not quite clear why Overwatch 2 should be a standalone game and not simply an addon. Blizzard still has to do some clarification work here.
What do you think about this? Are you already excited about Overwatch 2 and want to participate in the beta? Or does Blizzard need to convince you that Overwatch 2 was a good idea in the first place?
