Over the course of the past two years, many former fans have probably found their way back to the console or PC. Be it the lunch break in the home office, the lack of alternatives on the weekend or simply the joy of gaming. Either way, we had more than enough time to play through all genres and a variety of titles. Especially popular: Free-2-Play Shooter.

Top 5 Free 2 Play Shooters 2022

True to the motto “Easy to Learn, Hard to Master”, you won’t find it too difficult to get started with the best Free-2-Play shooters for 2022. However, if you want to fully master them, you’ll probably have to invest quite a few hours in them. This is especially true for tactical shooters or all those titles where, in addition to your equipment, the of the respective champion can determine victory or defeat.

Important: We are not focusing on games that will be released in 2022. Instead, we highlight the quality of the games regardless of their release year.

N° 1: “” (2020)

The comparatively tactical shooter from the “” maker Riot Games was already traded as “the new Counter-Strike” early on. In terms of gameplay, however, the two games differ in one not insignificant point: In “Valorant” you not only have to master the game itself, but also the individual champions.

Because each of them supports its own style of play. Do you like being in the middle of the ? Then try Jett or Reyna. You prefer to play the supporter? With Sage you can heal your team mates, walls and slow down the enemy team. Or you can play Omen or Brimstone to shield the spot from the bomb’s planet, the so-called “spike”, with smoke.

You can play the free-2-play shooter exclusively on .

N° 2: “Apex Legends” (2019)

If “Apex” looks quite similar to the Riot shooter in terms of design, the games differ primarily in their speed. The setting of Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale is based on the popular “Titanfall” series. Specifically, “Apex Legends” takes place around 30 years after the events of “Titanfall 2” (2016). 20 legendary characters compete for survival in teams of two or three players in an arena.

At the beginning of a round, you have to gather the necessary equipment and weapons on the playing field as quickly as possible. This loot decides in case of doubt over life and death. As you already know from other Battle Royal titles, the action takes place within a zone that gets smaller and smaller over the course of the game. The team that is the only one to survive at the end wins the round.

The free-2-play shooter can be played on the following platforms:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • PlayStation 4
  • Nintendo Switch

N° 3: “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” (2012)

The world’s best-known tactical shooter is still a timeless classic. Developed by Valve, “CS:GO” still captivates millions of players every day. You don’t get any abilities, but have to rely solely on the equipment you buy at the beginning of each round – unless you survived the previous one and are allowed to continue playing with the previous setup.

Competitive mode pits five terrorists (T) against five counter-terrorists (CT). The goal of the T side is to plant a bomb or prevent the release of hostages. The CT side, in turn, must disarm the bomb or prevent it from being planted in the place, or free a hostage. After 15 rounds, the sides are switched – the team that wins 16 rounds first wins the game.

N°4: “Call of Duty: Warzone” (2020)

The first battle royale (BR) in the “Call of Duty” series has been something to behold since Day 1. You have a variety of ways to customize your equipment, though you won’t be able to pick it up until later in the game via something called a “loadout.” Before that, you’ll have to make do with whatever weapons, primary and secondary grenades you can find on the map you’re playing. You can even make use of support from the air.

If you die in normal BR mode, you’ll first have the chance to prove yourself in a duel to be reinstated. If you lose, other members of your team can revive you at a buy station. The goal is to survive in the shrinking zone until your team is the last. One clear disadvantage of the Activision shooter: It devours a disproportionate amount of memory.

N° 5: “Fortnite” (2017)

Although the building feature that once made “Fortnite” famous has disappeared from the game, the battle royale as such still has a lot to offer. Similar to “Valorant” and “Apex Legends”, this third-person shooter is also reduced to a comic book-like design. There is no blood flowing and the environment also looks more like a playground than a real environment.

Especially for in-between, this game is a nice change. Up to 100 players in teams of up to four compete against each other. In the end, as always, Last Team Standing counts. New – Season s, events and skins provide variety and let you personalize your character extensively. But you shouldn’t lose track of the sums you invest in the game.
