According to WoW streamer Asmongold, interest in WoW Classic content is waning. Even WotLK Classic won’t change that in the long run. Instead, he would like to see an overhaul of systems in retail WoW.
With the – Season of the championship of WoW Classic the developers have already made some good changes, but WoW streamer Asmongold has no desire to play rehashed content after – Season of Championship and TBC Classic. He also sees little hope in WotLK Classic: “The game will attract many players in the beginning and then they will lose interest very quickly.”
He acknowledged that some of the content would be good, such as arenas. Still, he doesn’t think it will be enough to keep people interested because it won’t have the same effect as the Classic re-release. Instead, WoW’s biggest influencer wants the devs to give the retail version of WoW a good shake-up.
Is WotLK Classic the end of Classic expansions?
Raises the question of how far Blizzard will go with rehashing old expansions. When asked by a fan in his Twitch stream, he replies that he would prefer to play on a Legion Classic server. That’s WoW’s 6th expansion and still a long way off. But actually, he doesn’t want any more Classic content.

“I’m tired of having Classic content put in front of me,” he said. “I just want new stuff, man. I want new content. Am I the only person who feels that way? I mean, it’s nice that we have this other stuff, but let’s just bring something new!”
New content likely awaits WoW players soon with WoW Shadowlands patch 9.2. However, the patch does not contain any really groundbreaking changes. WoW players are still waiting for the announcement of a new expansion. Wrath of the Lich King Classic has also not yet been announced. But if interest in WoW Classic continues to decline as Asmongold says, it’s quite possible that it could be the last Classic expansion.
Because after that, chronologically, you’d actually have to warm up Cataclysm – an expansion that many didn’t remember so well and that caused the biggest player loss in the MMORPG’s history.
